Horseradish Vodka

Just had this for the first time at the local Vodka lover's joint, Pravda. All I can say is wow! I am not really a wine, spirit, and beer snob. I guess I just don't have the motivation to discern the subtlest of differences between different makers. Don't get me wrong - I can tell a good wine, but I just would not consider myself overly interested in the subject. In fact, when drinking, I like to keep it as simple as possible these days. No mixed drink business - beer, martinis, or straight (higher-end) liquor are best for me. And one thing I never liked is flavored vodka. Until now. Wow. Horseradish vodka. This stuff went down so smooth, and then two seconds after you down it, a mindblowing kick hits the back of your throat and works its way to your mouth. Obviously it tastes like horseradish/wasabi, but it just fits so well with the taste of vodka that I'm surprised it isn't more popular. I haven't been this excited about a spirit for years. Not sure what brand I had as I did not order it, but I'm fairly certain this can be homemade. This seems like a reasonable starting point: http://www.guntheranderson.com/liqueurs/horserad.htm http://localfoods.about.com/od/allre...eradishvod.htm I hope you guys get a chance to try it out at some point.

Not to sound like a girl, but find yourself a real Russian restaurant, and look for a real cranberry vodka (not vodka with cranberry juice). Chilled, that thing goes down about as smooth as anything I can ever think of. I only had it twice in Boston, no idea where I can find it..., can't even remember how the bottle looked like, yes it was that good (or I became that drunk)

The best thing about good vodka is 1. you get drunk quickly, 2. no puking, 3. no hung over if you does it right.

edit: ok it's still cranberry juice add of some sort I have to imagine, but I just never get anything that I mixed myself (which could be the problem) to be remotely close to what I had that time

Sounds grotesque.

I've had this before. Although it was better than normal, unflavoured vodka, it still was still pretty bad.

I drink coffee infused vodka all of the time though. That's really good.

Horseradish vodka is good. There's a place in Chicago that serves it--might be called the Russian Tea Room or something.

Sounds pretty vile, although I suppose it would be pretty warming. I find Bison grass vodka is pretty tasty and can often be had quite cheaply.

The skeptics need to actually try it. I was also a bit iffy until I downed my first ounce and a half.

Have you ever been to Russian Vodka Room? I went there with some of my Russian friends and had a nice time.

Where is Pravda? Down near Supreme and those skateboarder stores? Is it cool? I never been there.

It's alright. The scene isn't that great. Think of it as a decent place to go and sit down with some friends and talk. It's not good for meeting people. The vodka is good but very expensive. Not a place I would go if I was planning things.

Anyway, it's right around Houston and Lafayette.

Old Russian cold remedy is to steep some horseradish in vodka, then mix with honey and down. So I will try the horseradish vodka, if only for the ties of blood. ~ H

Pravda. Yes, it is downstairs from street level. Didn't get a good look at the bouncer.

Russians LOVE pickles. So do I though, so I can't judge.

I always take a shot of horseradish-infused vodka after eating a chick's pussy. I think of it as a chaser.

pickle or bread, it works like a charm, smell it first, and then the vodka will go down smoother, only downside is people around you will think you're high on something (might not be a downside actually).
