Is it just me, or does Wal-Mart totally suck it raw?

1. The stores near me have like 90% third world employees, and the employees that are American speak English worse than the foreign ones.

2. Their "amazingly low" prices aren't that low. I've seen better prices at my local Kroger.

3. Their selection on many items is piss poor.

4. Trying to get any customer service (even poor service!) out of them is about as painful as my last root canal.

What do you gentlemen think?

Kind Regards,

Chase

Ah yes, Jayhawk! I forgot the aisles. My fav with their aisles is that they'll block off an entire aisle in the middle of the ******* day to re-stock it. That's using the old noggin, Sam Walton!

Their prices really aren't that low. They put the lowest priced item in the main aisle to lure you into thinking the entire section is that low. On some things they aren't even close to being the lowest price. And yes, finding someone who speaks English is quite a challenge, literally.

Wal-mart makes me nauseous.

2. Their "amazingly low" prices aren't that low. I've seen better prices at my local Kroger. On average across a store they are probably lower priced. But on some items they are the same or higher. They also stock a selection of goods that covers the low price points more. So if you like shopping in the middle price points, you'll be dissappointed

3. Their selection on many items is piss poor. relates to #2

4. Trying to get any customer service (even poor service!) out of them is about as painful as my last root canal. their customers aren't paying for that

Their corporate office also sucks. Old ratty carpet, and the (white collar) employees have to take out their own trash

They certainly don't roll 'investment banker-style' in Bentonville.

WTF? You'd think that with all that money they could afford a posh office.

Goes against their corporate philosophy. It's sort of a point of pride that it's a bit shabby around the edges.

Also, most of your big box corporate offices will have a 'fake store' set up out back, or across town, where they can 'test out' new shelving styles, signage, check-out lane concepts, lighting, whether Segways can be used in the store, etc etc etc. It's also where vendors get some empty shelves to put up their "set" and see how it works on the shelves, how it should be merchandised, what size signs need to be ordered and how they will look, etc.

Mao-Mart has random warehouse space, rented all across Bentonville, some in run down strip malls, with no consistency or even effort to simulate a real Wal-Mart store. Some don't even have air conditioning

Prior to my current incarnation, I spent my days outsourcing American jobs and closing down mom-n-pop stores in the corporate office of another major retailer.

That was info gained second hand from co-workers that had previously worked in Bentonville.

David Faber's CNBC special about Wal-Mart was really good as well, and I think mentioned the carpet condition in particular. And about fairly high up (I think VP level) employees having to share hotel bedrooms when on business trips.

But all the big retailers are basically the same, Wal-Mart just takes it one step or one degree farther. Target, Kohls, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's, Costco, etc just put a nicer veneer on it.

Why don't you just avoid the store then? No reason to get upset about it.
