*edit* The cold water is warming up from the heat of the HOT water pipe. hahaha... I worked with a contractor for sometime and we have seen it before. But whatever, I'm probably wrong...

Even if that was the case, which would, as I mentioned, would be extremely unlikely (your hot water pipe would have to be dangerously hot) - it would result in about five seconds of "warm" water comin from the cold water pipe. As soon as cold water started flowing through the pipe, it would be cold. It takes much more energy to heat water inside a pipe indirectly than would be logically available in your hot water pipe.

True. But he says that he turns off the shower, so the water is still.

I dont know. Im just saying its a possibility. Good luck finding the answer!

Yeah, but he also said his water starts off cold, and then warms up as he runs it. Your scenario would cause the exact opposite of that.
