BBQ Seafood: Recipes and Suggestions?

'tis almost BBQ season, and this year I thought it would be cool to mix it up. Having somewhat gotten the hang of steaks last year, I think it's time to move onto seafood.

Anybody have some good seafood recipes or methods for BBQing?

My dad used to grill Salmon a lot, with just some pepper, salt and oil. Medium rare on the inside, nice and juicy.

I remember read a simple recipe in Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential, does anybody ow where I can find it?

I'm thinking about trying to bbq some salmon this year on a big ass block of wood - heard that it's good like that.

I've also had some excellent grilled flounder in the past.

Shrimp is great, and couldn't be easier. Toss with olive oil and seasonings, put on a skewer, and grill. They are always a hit at my house.

Just be sure to be careful with any fish on the grill - you have to be careful not to overcook it.

Whole grilled red snapper is fantastic.

Sardines on skewers in Málaga.

You can grill seafood all you want (and it is good) but is there any such thing as barbeque seafood?

I feel like most seafood cooks far too fast for bbqing to be an option. Is smoking as close as you can get?

By BBQ'ing do you mean BBQ or grilling. I think most here are referring to grilling.

Difference being BBQ is over indirect for a long time whereas grilling is over direct heat.

In any case, grilling butterfly shrimp is great! Garlic, salt, pepper, olive oil and a bit of butter. Absolutely delicious!

Buy a cedar plank. It's good stuff.

+1 to shrimp and lobster (in the case of lobster, it’s a little more work, but I like to take the 5 lb+ ones, boil them long enough just to remove the nearly-raw meat from the shell, and grill the meat that way).

Also a warm squid salad – throw some squid on the grill, then slice up and toss with some spinach, olives, red onion, and lightly dress with olive oil and balsamic.

You’re a Vancouverite? Some west coast halibut filets and scallops are nice as well.

Great ideas guys, seems like most seafood is good just grilling it with simple seasoning and making sure it doesn't get overcooked. I meant grilling.

Salmon + wood, I've always wanted to try it. They sell cedar planks just for this, but i always thought it's stupid to buy wood that was "food-specific." Is there a difference between that and cedar I can get from Home Depot?

Warm squid salad sounds awesome, would've never thought of that.

Suspect a lot of the wood you'll find at home depot is probably treated -- not something I would want to use for food.
