Old 2-piece golf balls - still good?

I thought I knew this already but I'm hearing otherwise.

So I've been away from golf for about five years now, and the balls in my bag are at least that old. They're all 2-piece high-spin models. I've heard through the office that they're no good now and I should buy new...but the thrifty bastard in me says otherwise. However, I can't really afford to lose any more face than I'm already planning for, so I put this topic out there for you.

Use the oldies, or buy new?

Also, if anyone has any spare plaid polyester slacks they can spare...four colors or more only, PLZ.

Are you good at golf? If not you won't be able to get the benefit out of new balls. Use your old balls.

On a good day I'll probably shoot low 90's. Back in the day...low 80's to 80.

Thomas, if your golf balls are in 2 pieces, you're hitting them too hard.

Lay off the juice, dog.

heh, back in the day I played with a guy who played for Utah in college. Probably around a +2 or so. One day he complained to the handicap committee that his handicap was too low (4, iirc), then went out with the committee and shot 67. ooooops.

anyway the f%$#ker played Ping Eye 2's and Top Flite balls, and would knock even those out of round. A wound balata ball? sure, those go out of round even for me. But a two-piece Rock Flite?

Haha, Top Flites are very good balls to use when it is cold outside. They seem rock hard, but have a ton of bounce when they are very cold.

As long as your golf balls aren't water damaged or chipped, they should be fine.

Sometimes the two-piece balls are better because you can easily locate the cut-line, then draw a line with a marker so you know where it is, line it up so that is is parallel to where you are aiming, this should ad about 10-20 yards to your drives.

If you plan on hitting shots that rely on getting a lot of spin, specifically inside of 60 yards or so, then higher-end balls with urethane covers are very useful. If you are not good enough to do that, then just play whatever.

Back on topic, play with the old balls. You're playing against the course, not your friends.
