Important question about brown

A friend of mine told me that "brown is only worn by farmers and rednecks, white trash, peckerwoods, hillbillies, and hicks". Should i believe him?

Yes you should. Your friend could not be anymore correct. Didn't you recently buy several pair of brown shoes?

So you don't own a single pair of brown shoes?

I've never personally seen a peckerwood wearing brown shoes. In any event, it's really silly to relegate shoes to one color. What is the logic behind it? Certainly a pair of cream wool pants look a bit odd with black, right? Would you wear only black leather watch straps?

Are this friend's initials L. P.?

Sounds to me like your friend is the "peckerwood". Brown is an acquired taste for many, it was for me (after years of over wearing it as a kid). Tan pants look great with Brown, English Tan, Burgundy, and even Black, but Brown is classic, in my opinion. Tell us more about your friend though, I would like to know a bit about him, age, background, education, where he became so knowledgeable about fashion. Ever watch the NBC morning show, check out Matt Lauers shoes sometime, he wears BROWN a lot, and they look good.

I always thought that an off-white or cream pair of trousers looked okay (& maybe even decent) with black shoes -- esp. if the trousers were paired with a blue blazer.

I guess it looks okay. But the casual air of the pants calls out for some shade of brown IMO.

I wear a lot of brown - prefer it. I must decide if I am more a "peckerwood" or "white trash." Inasmuch as I could not grow a single crop, urban boy that I am, I will self-eliminate "farmer."
