There was a thread a few days ago about wearing "polo" shirts with sportscoats... I'm asking this to the SW&D crowd because I'm not interested in the stuffy traditional rules for 50+ men... anyone seen or tried this look? I mean it as a casual fun look, not as a bad attempt at being seriously dressed up... Thoughts? All I could find was this ol' thread from way back http://www.styleforum.net/archive/in...p/t-25588.html Something along these lines:

I imagine that some ex sorority girls out drinking cosmos at a local bar might dig it.... or not.

In the name of all that is holy please, please don't. This is just wrong in so many ways. It's just a bad combination...

That bad huh?

Don't just judge the pics, I mean you can't see yourself pulling this off? There are many times when a polo is a little too casual and shirt tie and jacket would be overkill...

It looks incredibly stupid, in my honest opinion.

polos= casual
ties= dressy

The two are completely incongruous.

I don't see myself pulling it off. I don't generally wear polos (I don't have anything against them, I just don't think they fit me well). If I did wear polos I would stay far away from a tie while doing so; they're just too casual to wear with a tie.

I agree with you here, but in those cases I wear a shirt with no tie, perhaps an OCBD to dress it down a bit more if need be. The jacket is optional depending upon the occasion.

That look is atrocious.
