Weight loss after surgery

I have had multiple surgeries in the past year and have gained weight. I've had a torn mcl, acl and Achilles. Nobody in my family is overweight. In a year I have gained 30 pounds as I am still recovering. Physical therapy about kills me. I have no energy anymore. I recently got off of narcotic painkillers and it was hell. I still have a good deal of pain and thus lack motivation to move.

Since I really cannot exercise, what can I do to lose weight? I used to be really active. Soccer 3 times a week, bjj 4 nights a week as well as the occasional game of basketball.

I drink about 6 L of Evian water a day. If I don't drink that much water, I feel sick. I eat pretty healthy most of the time.

good post . i hope you recover in due time and become active again. i would recommend some of that anti-move calisthenics type exercise ( i dont know what it is called) where you use your body part to counteract another force of another body part (e.g. you curl your arm/bicep but you use your other arm/hand to keep it from curling upward) and do this type of force exercise for several reps for several sets per day. you'll find yourself work yourself to a good sweat even.

i dont know , i am just assuming you are unable to get up and move .

isometrics I think is what shonuff is referring to. Aren't there some forms of low-impact yoga you can get into to restore some flexibility and range of motion?

Have you checked your diet to see how many calories you are consuming versus your maintenance level?

Eating 'healthy' doesn't have any effect on weight gain or loss.

good luck, I feel your pain.

unfortunatly, you need to do something, or a few things, drastic.

here's what you can do

1. lift weights - if you can build up more muscle mass, it will get your metabolism running faster

2. find something that you can do, for cardio- you can't run, maybe you can walk, or swim. but find something that fits what you can do, and do it. maybe row. try a few things. as you can, take up more active cardio excersize.

3. protien -ok, here's the best thing you can do. 4 or 5 containers of atkins protien (no carb) liquid a day, plus as much broth, V8, no cal ice tea or drinks, water, no fat yogurt you want. for a week on, week off. on weeks off, have a protien shake before you have any meal, and don't have any fried food, beer, or serious desserts (ice cream, cake etc). the protien will fill you up, and you won't eat very much. protien makes you feel full and satisfied,

I let myself go for years, and now I am down more than 100 pounds in about 20 months. good luck

I am doing a combination of things now. I am trying the isometric type of exercises, physical therapy and protein shakes only. I got some EAS whey protein and I have 3 shakes per day.

Congratulations on the weight loss
