How offended are people by Che Guevara quotes?

For my next tattoo, I want to get the words "Hasta La Victoria Siempre" on my arm. It's become a kind of mantra for me because I find the quote so powerful. I am aware though that Che Guevara used the phrase quite famously in a letter to Fidel Castro, and while I am annoyed by people who wear Che shirts without knowing a damn thing about Che (outside of the Motorcycle Diaries movie) I was wondering if a tattoo with a Che quote would draw similar ire from other people. I know that the cool thing to do these days is confront people wearing Che shirts and angrily question them about Che (I know people who do this, complete tools they are) and I'd like to know how much of that I'd be in for with this tattoo.

As far as actually identifying with Che Guevara's politics, I'd rate myself a 6 on a scale from 1-10 with one being "completely disagree" and 10 being "completely agree". And let's keep it friendly, I posted this outside CE for a reason

tattooing something you agree with at 21 is a bad idea IMO. your views will invariably change.

I think you are an idiot if you are any higher than 3 on the Che scale. Tattoo would imply higher than three, therefore I would think you an idiot.

I would just tattoo the Che shirt onto your chest.

completely agree, which is why I don't have any Christian/religious tattoos. I just find the words "forever until victory" a really inspirational message about never giving up until you get what you want, regardless of affiliation. I'm not sure I ever want to change that. I don't think you have to be Christian to believe in not casting the first stone, and I don't think you need to agree with Che to believe in this kind of spiritual fortitude. I just happen to like the way he worded it.

Nothing against you kunk, but the fact that you think I was doing it because I agreed with what Che did (if that was what you meant) just shows how everything even remotely associated with him is so politicized.

Thanks for the responses guys. I know it sounds dumb to consult the internets for something like this, but I seriously can't get many serious conversations about it IRL with the friends I have. edit: how the fuck do you all respond so fast. are you all on SF at work or something?

ahahaha yeah, I'm probably going to shelve it for now - I have a bunch of tattoo ideas I have in the pipeline and I was just thinking of which one to do next. the Trex one is definitely in there

I am sure people whose family lost their lives and had to flee communism will love it--- you can totally relate (being a white upper middle class kid from the suburban United States), and totally deserve to flaunt your communist idol....

The Che is a polarizing figure and certainly a popular symbol. I sorta don't like the quote because that's exactly what is wrong with Che, you can sorta interpret it (in spanish) to mean that he'll fight for an eternal victory and, to my mind, Che might have helped topple a tyrant but the problem is what he did after that wonderful victory. This is a common revolutionary problem (all about destroying, no idea about what to build) and that saying properly encapsulates it. I'd really reflect on that before getting it tatooed. Personally if I ever got a quote tattoo it would be the old anarchist saying "no god no master" (Ni Dieu ni maître).
