San Francisco/Napa/Sonoma gourmands - Page 3

Any food fan visiting SF will want to walk through the Ferry Building in the late afternoon. You get a great view and there is a wonderful food court. My wife and I like to stop in at the Slanted Door, sit at the bar and order a snack of Spring Rolls and have a cocktail or glass of wine. It gets pretty noisy when the dinner crowd comes in, but for a late afternoon stop it's perfect.

INRE: S4 vs Mustang Ragtop.

If you are spending anytime in the city, the S4 will be beat to shit. The Mustang will have a nice soft ride and it will be hot in Napa.

+ 1 on PSG and the Ferry Bldg. I work three blocks away and need to spend more time there. Thanks for the reminder, PSG.

Chez Panisse is very good and very Berkeley. Every ingredient will be flawless but some items are a bit, unusual. Like the nettles pizza my wife got the last time we were there. My fish was delicious. It is a most unique experience at one of the true food meccas of California cuisine. How many places do you know sell out every night since the 1970's? And, if you don't like it just go next door to Cesar for amazing Spanish tapas and cocktails. Lots of cool people too.

Nettles rock. For years they came up naturally in our yard and I made a lot of things with them. They are really tasty. Sometimes as I walk my son to school I see them growing next to the projects--if only I would remember my rubber gloves! Now for weeds we get lots of euphorbia/spurge, which contains a powerful acid that can really damage your hands. Not a fair trade.

Dried stinging nettle tea is a very effective treatment for hayfever, with no side effects (assuming you aren't allergic to nettles!)
