A question for dentist: wisdom tooth

So mine is coming out on the top left of the jaw. It grows sideway, right into my my left jaw. Is there any way to manually force the direction of growth to the normal position (downward)? It hurts so much right now.

just so happens you got the short end of the stick and they're erupting in sideways (impacted). go see a dentist or oral surgeon. you can't manually straighten your teeth without braces/invisalign can you?

3rd molars are just bad news. evolutionarily, we don't need 3rd molars to eat anymore since we're keeping our teeth for a longer period of time. not only do they cause a lot of orthodontic problems, they're also a pain in the ass to fill if there's a cavity.

sometimes even when they erupt in correctly, some soft tissue/gums that is remaining over the tooth gets traumatized from the opposing arch/jaw which can be really painful.

be ready for an expensive extract. since it's growing in sideways, it'll probably be a surgical extraction instead of a simple forcep extraction.

if you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Oh man. That sounds bad. Thanks that was informative. Can you suggest any temporary tricks to ease the pain? I just took two tynenols but not sure if those will do the trick.

Gonna have to get 'er yanked. Looking long term, there's really no better option.

Definitely try manually forcing it. Let us know how it goes.

I had all (4) of mine yanked during college. It wasn't bad at all! Knocked me out, I woke up and was missing (4) teeth. Luckily, I didn't have any complications afterward.

you better get them removed soon. should not have waited till they start hurting. you should have had them checked prior by a dentist for a diagnosis.

now if it is hurting you, they can be impacting your adjacent molar enough where it can have an internal crack (like a stress fracture). that will cause future problems (more serious) than you have now.

so go get it taken out.

My wisdom tooth extraction was the best dentistry experience of my life:

Nurse: "Can you feel that yet?"

Nurse: "Wake up, we're done."

Awesome.

I just had one wisdom tooth extracted. It was growing sideways, but it was growing on top of the gums. It was a simple extraction and my dentist just pulled it. It was relatively painless and quick.

Is yours below the gum? If so, they have to cut the gum and pull it out. That is more painful and requires more recovery time.

I have three left and they do not hurt (and all are below the gums). My dentist is cool and since I'm older (40YO) he says not to do the surgical extraction b/c it will hurt more and require more recovery time. If I were 20 or so he would recommend doing it.

Clove Oil
Take a Q-tip, the ear swab thing with the stick & cotton,
and get a bit of the Clove Oil on it.
Whammo!
Pain Gone ...it will completely numb the area for awhile.
It is not a cure..just a temp fix.

If you go to pharmacy, get Clove oil
or a product called ANBESOL

Careful you dont buy ANUSOL because thats for hemmoroids or anal itching...lol

If you look in your kitchen pantry,
look through the spices for the Cloves.
They are little black balls.
Get 2 of them over the pain area.
it should take the pain away until you get to a dentist.

best of luck...hope this helps.

Awesome.

Mine was horrible. it went like this:

Doctor: Can you feel that?

Me: YES! THAT HURTS SO BAD!!!!

Doctor: I'll give you a bit more novocaine.

*Gives more novocaine*

Doctor: Does it still hurt?

Me: YES. I'M IN AGONIZING PAIN. PLEASE STOP!!!!!

Doctor: We're almost done, just a little bit more.

Needless to say, that was also the last time I ever saw that dentist. (And FWIW, the other side, which was done right before, didn't hurt much at all. I think he screwed up the injection on the one side.)
