should fragrance "match" clothing?

If one dresses in trad/preppy clothing, would it be somehow wrong to also be wearing something like Jil Sander fragrance, or would RL-branded stuff be more appropriate? I'm a newb to this stuff.

You're 15, should you be wearing cologne? (though my opinion is that nobody should really wear cologne, at least, if you're like me and smell great all the time. I feel there's something cheesy and unrefined about it.)

All you need is some deoderant brah!

your cologne should match the season and time of day. with a little experience you'll know when something smells like a warm weather scent or a cold weather scent.

Time of day? Like, you put on something "sunny and energetic" in the morning, leave work early to shower at 4:00 pm, then change to more of an "evening dusk with hints of walnut" to fit the evening?

no, but some colognes smell more casual, like something to wear to work or school, while others smell more like something to wear on a date or to a club.

He should use the money to buy alcohol.

yes, fragrance should match clothing and season. Some fragrances however have a broader range of applications: Guerlain Vetiver is more versatile than Chanel Pour Monsieur, which is more versatile than Hermes Equipage, which is more versatile than Knize Ten.

As you sample and try various scents, some will seem more relaxed (Bay Rum) and others more stuffy and formal (L'Instant). Take your time, though, and wear only what smells good to you.

I agree with this Thomas, but I think he's asking if there's a preppy scent to match his preppy dress...I don't know of this existing, do you? There isn't a crazy ninjagoth scent for people who wear Geller and Julius dude. Thomas is talking about formal and informal scents. That shouldn't be an issue for you, you're almost always doing the SW&D thing and when you're not I would venture to say it doesn't really matter because of your age and the settings you'd be in. When you get older, there are certain kinds of scents you would probably not want to wear at certain occasions but I think most of that stuff is kind of obvious. BTW wmmk, the one Jil scent I've smelled was really summery and light and hot, don't really get your example. Don't wear RL cologne with RL clothes, that's retarded. Unless you really like both I guess.

Haha, good post but there totally is an official goth ninja scent and it's CdG (#2 or something like that I believe?) Personally I wear Jo Malone Pomegrante Noir (thanks John) with my Julius.

Hahahah, yeah I figured someone would say something like that. was this decided by SZ? though I think CdG 2 is pretty tame, nice though...you ever smell their Series 6 shit? It's like Dadaism in scent form, absurd.

Hmmmm, yes, I see your point there. Thinking about this though...Preppies shouldn't wear anything but Vetiver, Pour Un Homme, Polo, and Old Spice. Preferably not all at once.

For sheer preppie outlandishness, though, there's Habit Rouge, Kouros or Giorgio for Men. But at the tender age of 15, they will wear you.

If all else fails, though, wear what you like. I wore Brut and Clinique at 15, but I attended an all-boy's school, and not even the frequent furtive trips through the woods to the all-girls' academy helped me get laid.

.....

CDG2Man is fairly goth but Bvlgari Black seems even more goth (vanilla-tea-rubber)

Does it really matched? I don't know how to match my perfumes to my favorite clothes. Well I need to go to a perfume store and get advice from the experts. ____________________ Contact Lens Tips, Men's Accessories

There are a number of fragrances that to my nose just smell "clean" -- not necessarily like soap, but very light and citrus/floral I guess compared with the cloying heaviness of other scents. I submit that if one is looking for a standard "smell" that will make them memorable (in an inoffensive way), this is the route to take.

Two examples are Decleor L'Original (now sadly discontinued, but you can find it cheap on eBay if you want to take a chance) and Lalique Pour Homme (EDIT: the one with the lion on the bottle).
