Am I biting off more than I can chew? (Remodeling bedroom)

I'm changing up my bedroom this summer and I was wondering how hard is it to make something like the picture below? I want to have a bed between the two wood desks instead of a couch though. I'm only 19, and never made anything out of wood before... but the desks don't look that hard to make? Anyone have any good advice/sites/books for me to start reading. Any advice is helpful, from type of wood, to how to secure the desks to the wall/floor, to telling me that it looks stupid is all helpful .

Thanks, Kevin

Are you in an apartment or living with your folks? If the latter, and this is something you're passionate about doing, do your research ahead of time to keep costs down. Consider also that this is something you'll likely enjoy for a few years and then move away from so with items like the chair, go for a flexible color that can be used with arrangements other than the one you intend to build.

Also, the angle of that photo seems to create a deceptive sense of verticality so be aware that with typical ceilings, having the full frame around the room MAY make it look a bit scrunched and unbalanced. Just something to keep in mind.
