uh, the pic of the baguette guy on sufu - seriously thought it was a girl.

i think to pull the look off you need to have a slightly more athletic build. like what someone said earlier about how the bottom tip of your worked out quads (like right above your knee) showing is what really pulls it off.

michael bastian always has short shorts in his spring/summer lines - take a look at em www.michaelbastiannyc.com - and they are styled in that classic preppy way that everyone here is trying to do.

OH and a good tip for getting these kinds of shorts CHEAP -

-bc it seems like the only brands that really do slimmer shorter shorts are gonna be the higher end brands i.e. penguin, gant etc
-and bc i can't make myself pay more than $50 for a pair of shorts

anyway, i go to mall stores like gap, express, banana republic etc, raid the clearance racks for cotton pants in glen plaids, cool pinstripes etc, then i take them to a tailor and have them made into shorts.

seriously i've done this for 2 pairs that i own now - one is a grey glen plaid and the other is a solid navy - both pairs were like $15 each, tailor shortened them for $12 each.

got a great pair of shorts i get complimented on all the time for, for $27 versus $78 for some penguin ones i saw at the COOP.

West, those look pretty great. Your arms seem bigger than your legs, props. What're the shoes?

for some reason the rise looks really high on these, and it looks like they are pulled up to strangle the testes. if it weren't for these two things the look is not bad at all IMO.

^^ The top ones look bad, like they're too long to be that slim. It doesn't help that they're pleated either.

The reality is this look only flatters a small number of people. It isn't even a matter of it not working for heavier people. People with the OP's build look awkward wearing really short shorts. Your response makes it sound like this is a style that universally looks good.

This is interesting. Do you think we should only discuss things that 'work "universally"'? What does that even mean? What kind of clothes look good on everyone? Does it matter? Wait...don't some people just not look good, no matter what they're wearing? And hold on a second...don't most of the models sporting short shorts have a similar build as the OP...? Let me clear some things up for you. If you have a bad figure, you need to fix that before you try to go and build yourself a wardrobe. Shorts are not hard to pull off; all it takes is confidence and the right cut. People are afraid to wear shorts because they are afraid of how it will look and how it will be perceived. People also ask really dumb questions and make really dumb statements essentially based on the same concept. If you don't think it looks good, that's fine. Maybe you don't get it though. Sorry to be a dick.

I wear "short" shorts all Summer long. I prefer the black Nike running shorts which only have maybe a 3 1/2 or 4 inch inseam. Nice and cool and comfortable which is all I care about when it's hot out. Most of my other shorts are basically for hiking, made out of technical fabrics and are way above the knee. My legs are in great shape so I guess I'm one of those supposed lucky few who can get away with wearing them. Even if I wasn't lucky I would still wear them since my comfort is more important than anyone's opinion. As if anyone's opinion really matters to me anyway. LOL.
