The influenza virus travels primarily through the air. A doctor who did flu research told me that if an infected person walks into a crowded room that everyone will be exposed and a third of the people will get the flu. Therefore, gloves won't do you much good. Different viruses spread in different ways. The cold virus is usually transmitted when touch it with your hands and then touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. The mononucleosis usually requires you to to have oral contact. Herpes requires...well you get the picture.

The swine flu is not special in that it links humans and animals. In fact, many diseases developed when humans first domesticated animals and were in close contact with them for the first time. When Europeans colonized the Americas 99% of the natives were kill by disease alone.

Also, the normal influenza virus kills thousands of people per year. So far, the swine flu and killed only a small fraction of that. This is a classic case of the media flaming fears.

Overreacting? Be a man?. People this is your life we're talking about, not the economic recession. I hear this countless of times on CNN, and guess what, it comes from dumbass americans who go to mexico like nothing is happening.

There's nothing wrong with face masks, in Japan they wear face masks in public when they're sick.
All I'm saying is there's no need for panic, but at least be mindful.

They wear these masks to prevent infecting others, not to protect themselves from anything. These masks will not stop you from getting sick.

Fortunately, we have mask that offer protection against swine flu. It's the FFP3 masks from 3M, which offers the highest level of protection.

Flu spreads via airborne particles, which can be filtered.

I cant believe how crazy people get over stuff like this. More people die of stuff you have never even heard of than some pig flu... and by the way farmers are getting mad because sales of pork are dropping!! Change the name to F1R3T9 STRAIN G22P1 so people keep eatin that bacon.

Using a sanitizer frequently makes sense to me. But if you are really worried, then why not cancel the trip.

Get real: wear a mask if you MUST , decline to shake hands but gloves are entirely unnecessary and merely show a lack of judgement of reality. If you are so concerned then don't goersonally I would go - business as usual.

It's a bunch of circumstantial accusations. The anthrax guy's attorney maintains his innocence? Then it must be true. Just ask O.J.'s lawyers. We're supposed to believe that the U.S. Government is systematically eliminating microbiologists? I trust the government as little as the next guy, but that's a little too tin foil hat for me.
