Worst '80s songs? - Page 3

I like the lyrics from "Metal Health" better: I'm an axe grinder, pile driver Mama says that I never, never mind her Got no brains, I'm insane The teacher says that I'm one big pain I'm like a lazer, six string razor I've got a mouth like an alligator I want it louder, more power I'm gonna rock it till it strikes the hour

(johnapril @ June 23 2005,15:44) So cum on feel the noize Girls rock your boys We get wild, wild, wild, We get wild, wild, wild. DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHH..........
ANTHEMATIC...     Especially when you got a few bottles of beer in you.   Is there any songs of U2 (supposedly the self proclaimed "greatest rock band in the world") that you could really rock to?
I've always wished these bands would allow themselves to break out in a jam session in the midst of one of their popular songs. What is that called in classical music? Cadenzas? Those moments in a concerto when the soloist is free to interpolate certain passages. How many Pearl Jam songs would have benefitted from this liberty? [Opps, I've taken us out of the eighties on two counts.]

For the most part, cadenzas only "seem" or "sound" spontaneous. In actuality, they are written out like everything else. Some performers write their own, however. Jascha Heifetz's cadenzas for the Brahms and Beethoven violin concertos are superior to all the others, in my opinion.

Any song done by a band with the name "white" in it; Great White, White Lion, Whitesnake..... koji -------------- "I'm a concert pianist--that's a pretentious way of saying I'm unemployed at the moment."--Oscar Levant whitekeys.com/index.p....emid=43
irony....

Gosh, along with the great 80s music there's some horrid 80s music - I'll start with Jesse's Girl by Rick Springfield.

No shit, Mozart. I said, "free to interpolate certain passages," and this is obviously what I was referring to.

Such vitriol. What have I ever done or said to you to deserve that? And, anyway, from your first post it seemed clear that you did know what a cadenza is. Because you posed it like a question, I assumed it was a question. Silly me.

You should know by now I bear no ill will. These phrases are but mild socks in the shoulder from one brother to another. I'm too busy staring at my navel to escalate further.

Well, that's a relief. A man has a finite need for enemies, and my quota is full.

Lend me your huddled enemies. I can't keep my enemies because we usually find something more interesting in common that has nothing to do with our differences.

Yes, this one. Never heard it, though - before my time, I think. I'll take your word for it. My two favorite eighties songs are "Juke Box Hero" by Foreigner, and "Cherry Pie" by Warrant. Classics.

If one were to bend the category to include bad songs that one enjoys despite one's better judgment, as a sort of guilty pleasure, I'd have to include a few faves that I've always found to be great, dopey fun: (I know this much is) True (Spandau Ballet) (I wear my) Sunglasses at Night (Corey Hart) Johnny, Are You Queer? (Josie Cotton) Total Eclipse of the Heart (Bonnie Tyler) Love is a Battlefield (Pat Benatar) These were fun songs, but worked even better as cheesy videos, none moreso than he Benatar number, which should be in the Camp Hall of Fame.

I actually like many of the songs listed here.  (I'm surprised no one has yet bashed the classic "Take On Me" by A-Ha.)  In the worst category, I would put any song by an actor-turned-singer, e.g., "Party All The Time" by Eddie Murphy, "All I Need" by Jack Wagner.
