Nice looking chariot though. Next you're gonna tell me the matching seat and bar tape is fake leather too.
How does it ride?
haha no, fortunately those are real leather. Thanks--I'm very pleased with how it came out aesthetically. I'm not super knowledgeable about bikes so I just got the stock cross check and had a few mods made by the bike shop to make it a bit more unique--the fenders, silver post for the saddle, silver stem, silver rack.
Ride has been great so far--I can really feel the difference with the steel frame versus the cheap aluminum mountain bike I had before. The ride is very pleasant over the rough asphalt I'm dealing with. The bike feels fairly quick too--down the road may switch up the tires, maybe go with something smoother and perhaps down to 28mm. First time with drop handle bars, and I'm liking them very much, though the do feel a little wide actually. Still getting used to the bar end shifters, but they are actually pretty convenient and easy to use. Brakes don't seem amazing, but are fine so far. Haven't really carried much of a load yet--currently just sticking a backpack on the rack with a bungee net and it still feels pretty swift and stable with that, but interested to see how the ride will be with panniers. I decided not to get clipless pedals but even after two days I'm starting to think about getting a pair that has platforms on one side and clipless on the other so that rides to work I can use clipless and rides around town I can use regular shoes.
Anyway, for a non-bike nerd I am very happy. It was expensive but it feels like a quality ride and I hope to get a lot of use out of it. It seems to be exactly what I wanted--a bike that can do everything pretty well. I don't plan to race but I feel like it will be great for commuting around town, grabbing groceries, and I don't see why I won't be able to go on longer trips with it as well--looking forward to working up to a century in the next few months.
