True. But a true "slim fit" is probbaly not the best for me anyway. I am 6" 190lbs, so nothing about me is "slim", i don't want a jacket to make me look any bigger than I actually am, but the G4MIE in a 42 fits me well. Zipped up (which i'll hardly ever do here in LA) looks a bit boxier, but when it's unzipped and shows some of the plaid, it looks/fits pretty well. All in all I am very very happy with it.

Get Smart, in your opinion is the slim fit portrayed on the Baracuta website accurate?

Slim fit looks decently slim on the model there.

Hello all,

With respects to the Baracuta G9 wax Jacket sold in JCrew, has anybody try the jacket on? I would like some feedback about its fit and quality???? I've been eying the jacket for quite some time now. It's too bad none of my local Jcrew store have it in stock.

thanks all.

My 2 cents 9 months later - the above is spot on about Baracuta. To me the fit is not a con. Dublin is full of people in FP/BS harringtons that look rubbish IMO. I never ever see a harrington with the open back vent here expect for my Baracuta G9. Then again I'm not a Mod or Skin so the slightly blousier fit doesn't bother me.

Saw both the Specials and Madness in the last few months and my missus spent both gigs pointing out blokes in inferior harringtons.

Got one for xmas.
It's kind of puffy. Fit is far from slim. Sleeves seem a bit on the short side for the size. I got the size that fits in the shoulders and the sleeves are at the minimum I consider acceptable.
Quality is good. It is made in England. It doesn't smell as funny as other wax jackets have when new.

I have two of the slim fit non-quilted version for comparison. The "slim fit" designation is really just relative to the normal version. The sleeves on them seem longer relative to the waxed one. Funny that one is made in England and the other is made in Turkey or someplace like that. The MIE one has a label stating that prominent on the collar. The other one has a tiny label down on the seam near the hip hidden behind the care label.

Zippyh, Thanks for the reply. My Chest size is 40 would getting a 38 in the Jacket at least give a hint slimness to the look?

The word slim doesn't belong in any description of that jacket without "not" in front of it.
It really is pretty puffy although I suspect that'll be less pronounced with use.

I ended up getting the G4 Slimfit and regular fit G9. I do prefer the sleeves and waist a bit more on the G4 but I can tell you that the G4 "Slimfit" and G9 regular fit are very similar. The slim G4 might be a bit more trim in the body, but both defiantly are blousy in the arms. Still, I love both jackets and recommend each.

The Baracuta is not a slim-fitting jacket. I have a G9 slim-fit and love it though. Not really sure what the concern about the fit of the Baracuta is. Are people concerned that they'll be wearing the jacket in some nightclub and some hot girl will say, "You're pretty cute, but you look so tubby in that Baracuta G9." Not every article of clothing needs to be painted on to look good. The Baracuta G9 is a classic for a reason.

Yeah, I really do think some guys think that everything has to be slim and trim, even when that may not be the style of the garment. I think it looks worse when you try to slim down something that is not meant to be slimmed down.

Its not "slim" fitting but its not super blousy Old Man golf jacket either.

I love Teh Baracutas.

If you want to see how not to wear one watch 'Rudy', John Favreau wears one in that movie, he's pretty big back then and it does not look good.

My first Baracuta turned out to be a vintage fit. Bought it off eBay where it was incorrectly listed as a slim fit. Found out when I bought a slim fit one later from an online store and the fit was way baggier/blousy. Was always trying to pat the blousiness down when I was wearing it zipped up, couldn't get comfortable with it.

If the sleeves were slightly longer and the elasticated cuffs and waist weren't so tight, the vintage fit would be perfect for me.

Just so I'm hearing you correctly - are you saying the vintage fit actually is slimmer on you? My impression of the vintage fit is that is very similar to the slit fit but a bit shorter in the sleeves/body.

I have two slims, both G9s, a red 38 and a beige 36. I'm not sure which one is a better fit, the beige is a bit tight in the upper body, but the 38 is overall big on the 5'5" body. Sounds like a vintage fit 38 could definitely be the ticket...

It's definitely slimmer in the body and sleeves. Also tighter around the shoulders but not constricting. I bought size 38 in both fits.

^ That's a pretty good representation of the difference. The slim fit has that awkward bulge around the belly when zipped up. Vintage fit is a cleaner look.

Yeah that's a pretty fair assesment. The G9 looks a bit larger on that model than it is on me, guess it's not the best fit for skinny guys.
