My arms are longer, so the sleeves run a tad short on me.

In case anyone's interested, Oi Polloi has some measurements for the G9 Slimfit here. Got mine from there and paid US$195 incl. shipping. Shipping was quick and it was a nice surprise to find that the G9 I got was Made in England.

well, the Baracuta has raglan sleeves, so there's no shoulder seam, hence you can get away with a multitude of shoulder sizes that could fit into the same jacket without any awkwardness, as long as the arms are long enough. But in general I guess a size 38 would be the best for 18" shoulders. I have 17" shoulder and the size 36 fits me really well FP I'd say size 40, but it's one of those YMMV things. JtG probably a size 38 but Adam/Jonathan could answer that better than me Ben Sherman, probably size Small, I have a size S and it fits really well but if my shoulders were a bit wider I think it'd still fit fine. But if not, then def size M Pricewise you really can't go wrong with JtG or Warrior's harrington. There's something inherently *wrong* about a harrington costing over $200, imo

Apologies for the hijack, but do Harrington jackets look good dressed-up (shirt and tie)? Or is it only a look for J Crew catalogs

It looks better than just about any other casual jackets, if that makes any sense. IIRC, PinkPanther does this quite often in his WAWYT fits.

Do the JtG Harrington collars stay up on their own?

Would love more info on the competition. Pros/Cons/Differences etc. I've seen the originals, but not really the impostors. Fred Perry & Ben Sherman seem like popular options. Actually, possibly easier to find.

Might want to try out the G4 or G10 instead if you are carrying any sort of bulk up top (5'9 160 42' chest 30' waist here). I ordered the G9 size 38 from the Baracuta website and it looked ridiculous on me (personal opinion). It is very 'puffy' and it looked like I was wearing a ski/bomber jacket, especially stupid paired with an APC ns.

ps: for alternate brands try warrior harrington, very much cheaper and its a replica basically.

G10 has that logo though.

Does Jump the Gun or Warrior Harringtons run slim? I'd love a G4 replica.

I'm not sure I'd size down. The Baracuta is meant to be short-fitting, so that the waistband sits right at belt level. I know if I went down in size it would feel way too short on me. I'm normally a 42 or 44 in suits/blazers, depending on cut, and I wouldn't want to go any smaller than a 44 in a Baracuta. I'd even consider going to 46 if I thought I were going to wear sweaters a lot under them.

As for the blousiness, to me, that's part of the look. Look at some old photos of Steve McQueen wearing them, for examples.

I think the BS/FP harringtons have a much better fit than Baracuta. Baracuta is the original, and as such, it was NEVER intended to be a slimfitting jacket. Guys golfed in these things so you had to have roominess to swing a club down the fairway. Baracuta pros: -teflon coated cotton, rain/wind resistant -open back cent, cool detail -it's "authentic" if pedigree is of importance to you Baracuta cons: -price -fit, even the slimfit is a bit blousy Fred Perry pro: -fit -waxed cotton models available for weather resistancy Fred Perry cons: -pricing is up there just under Baracuta, not cheap -sewn down back vent -lack of color options -the non-waxed G9s dont have the tartan lining to the edge of zipper. the visible bit of plaid lining is a trademark look to the G9 -non waxed G9 is a poly/cotton blend. Ben Sherman pro: -price, around $130 retail -nice 100% cotton -different check lining that is specific to BS -open back vent -fit, maybe the best of the bunch Ben Sherman con: -odd ticket pocket on side...not a dealbreaker but an unusual detail -lack of colors -some of the newer ones have a self color logo embroidered on chest...not too visible but it's there -newer ones *might* be using nastier cotton. The one I have (and PinkPantser above) is an older model when they first reissued them, from about 3 years ago and used a softer finish cotton JtG/Warrior....don't own one of these but I've seen the JtG ones. Lots of color options and cheap price, can't be beat. This is what a working class harrington should be. Despite Robert's experiences above, I would not recommend sizing up on a harrington, and nearly everyone I know ends up sizing down 1. and I know A LOT of guys who wear harringtons

Might be because I'm borderline tall at 6'1" but a Baracuta in my regular size of 44 fits right on target. If I sized down one size, the waist band would be above my belly button. I wouldn't normally above 44, though. Only saying I would if I were going to wear heavier sweaters underneath.

I think, too, that overall I don't prefer as tight a fit in my clothes, especially shirts, sweaters, and jackets, as many other regular SF-ers.

I do like the fasteners on the G4 and the FP more than the bomber-jacket-style elastic on the G9 and JtG's.
