There's a show on my local community radio station that plays them all the time. That station saved my life while my iPod was out of commission.

That same friend also gifted me a vinyl of the Charles Manson Family Singing, which my friend had released in the '80s.

It's a limited edition on white vinyl with a Swastika on the cover.

No this is the "I listen to music that Ryan Schreiber didn't cram down my throat" thread, you National-listening *****.

The Harvey Milk show was good though I unfortunately got there late. Some good upcoming shows in Dc/Baltimore includes High on Fire, Weedeater and Pissed Jeans.

Death metal fans would call somebody a ***** based on their taste in music, wouldn't they?

3/4 of the bands mentioned in this post have scored higher than 8.0 p4ks (excluding the national).

It's also not the "I am so kvlt I don't listen to anything that wasn't recorded on wax cylinders by deaf mutes in the carpathian forest" thread.

Though I am getting in to deep cuts right now.

I've seen some residual mention of Wino (Shrinebuilder), but none of St. Vitus. If you are into to any doom/drone/sludge/whatever the kids call it these days, do yourself a favor and check them out. They are second only to Sabbath. Also, just an FYI for those interested, Buzzov-en is supposedly going to reunite at some point this spring for at least a tour. Line-up will be their last working one. Kirk (of course), Dixie from Weedeater, and Simple Man. Given Kirk's drug and law problems I guess we will see if it actually happens. Someone somewhere is getting a kick out of urban hipsters being so into a bunch of bands consisting of redneck potheads and drug addicts. It takes all kinds though, I suppose.

Currently listening to:
Worship- Last Vinyl Before Doomsday (re-issue, go get it)
Crowbar- Odd Fellows Rest
Om- God is Good
Marduk- Wormwood

^ Yeah I've been in to the proto-stuff for sure. Wino is from Frederick, Maryland (Or lived there anyway) and my uncle used to go see Saint Vitus with his biker buddies. On to some Blue Cheer as well. I was not aware of the serious drug problems re: Weedeater but I love that whole southern sludge scene and I was probably the only thing close to a hipster at their last Baltimore show.

A bunch of Southern Lord stuff today:

The Maryland doom scene had a nice write up in Terrorizer magazine a year or so back. It was mainly focused on Wino's other classic band Obsessed. If you dig Blue Cheer you should check out Firebird. It's Bill Steer's (Carcass) band. They have that 60's/70's fuzz thing going on. You can find them on Youtube or wherever. The southern sludge stuff is essiential. I was lucky enough to open up for some of the first wave of that stuff back in Florida. Buzzov-en, EHG, Acid Bath, Crowbar, etc. I'm going to see Weedeater in Newport, Kentucky next month. They finally made it to this area after the tour being delayed because of Dixie's shotgun accident. It might just be Kentucky but the hipster turn out at metal shows is increasing. It's just kind of weird to see after having been into this stuff for over fifteen years. It was enough for Matt Pike from High on Fire to make a smart ass comment asking if "mission of burma or some **** was suppose to playing" that night. Good **** on your playlist. I've been listening to Sabbath's Master of Reality and Neurosis today.
