Can anyone explain why Barneys (and sometimes Saks and NM) makes their sale day on a weekday? It is a bit understandable on a Friday since that is almost the weekend but to make a sale on a Monday to Thursday seems absurd since practically everyone works in those days. Wouldn't they sell more if it were set on a weekend?

I hate having to drive to Barneys and not bring home the item I purchased, instead I have to drive back or get it shipped to my house. Either way it cost extra money to get the item I tried to save money on. Can anyone explain?

I got a Rogues Gallery hoodie and Earnest Sewn light wash jeans for a little over $100 each. Well worth the effort.

Maybe they just want to attract the ballers? ie., bosses who can take off any time they want, celebrities, pro athletes, drug dealers, etc. These guys are more likely to buy full price shit on impulse once they come in. Regular folks like you and me (ie. the DONOTWANTs) will just come in, grab the sale items and head out the door.

But that doesn't make sense since most of the clothes are part of the sale. Plus why have a sale if they do not want more people to buy them? I thought that was the point, to move merchandise. I think "ballers" can come by on weekends and still have the same chance of buying it on retail. I just don't see the reason on cutting the traffic during the sale for that small percentage of people who may or may not buy something for a retail price.

Went to Madison Ave Barneys to look for items. Didn't see any APCs (well one but someone had) and Diors were only size 34, 36.

Barney's wants to increase traffic during slower periods. At this time of year, getting people through the doors is the name of the game. On the weekends, people will come in anyway, so holding such a high % sale is just a money loser. However, on a weekday, that is business that they would otherwise not have. It is not at the sunk cost, "get rid of merchandise to make room for new stock" phase of the cycle yet.

lol my barneys had nothing in stock, it's obvious they moved all the good sizes/merch to the back room and tried to shove overstock crap in sizes nobody wants. Because now everything has been restocked, it's a festivas miracle!

Oh, that's a good question. Is everything re-stocked today? There were plenty of things I would have purchased yesterday, but my size was missing in everything.

If anyone is near their Barney's today, check to see if things are re-stocked and "missing" sizes have re-appeared.

rfx, "sale" is just a part of the marketing/merchandising aspect of the business which depends on factors like demand, inventory, etc. the store do not expect to make a sale on every people that come through the door. for me, it's about being in a right mindset__ i don't go there with a mission to raid and pillage. like today i got zilch to do in the afternoon and so, that's good enough reason to schlept my ass across town to check it out and maybe update [my wishlist]__ they may not get me today on an impluse buy, but since i made time to be there, they know i'll be back another time to seal a deal. i'm actually on my way there right now__ NYC-Madison ave.

Why didn't you guys just buy the wrong size and go back to exchange it today?

I purchased some things pre-sale on Friday and the SA set them aside for me. Went to pick them up yesterday and they weren't able to find my order in the store although they know they rang them in the night before.

SA was nice and said they would courier them too me as soon as the carnage was over (the place was a mess) If I don't hear anything in another day I'm going to be pretty pissed though.

I was in the Seattle location last night and it was pretty crazy. They even had piles of clothes lying near the cash registers.

Yeah, the load of clothes by the register was insane. Glad I picked up what I wanted 4 days before. Did grab the EG white dobby stripe button up. Just want I was looking for in a summer shirt.
