I fail to understand how people don't like college rock.

I'm so so so so so mad i missed their farewell tour back in 02 i think. It was summer and i had to go on this family vacation and i made the mistake of riding with them instead of taking my own car. I couldn't take the only car to drive to tampa for the show and i found out a week later it was their last ever tour. My friend still taunts me telling me how great the show was and how the place went nuts during "Girl O'Clock" and how the crowd was all singing the chorus to "Ice of Boston" together.

I still don't really put pavement in college rock. More part of that early-mid 90s lo-fi alt rock stuff. Sebadoh/sentridoh/lou barlow bands, built to spill, beck, silver jews, heatmiser, the minders, etc... Still like that stuff though Again, i got ripped off. Good bands never come to gainesville so i don't even check anymore but fucking Dinosaur Jr played last week and NO ONE FUCKING TOLD ME. Screwed again

That's pretty much precisely what 'college rock' was though.

IMO, between the heyday of American hardcore and grunge breaking, you can put just about anything from the indie/alt category in the 'college rock' box.

After Nirvana, you've got mainstream radio alt-rock and the more lo-fi/indie strain that remained the domain of college radio (though sometimes bled over to radio, cf. Liz Phair).

Well, to people in the generation after you, college rock means something different so it's hard considering i went to college 10 years later Music that college students listen to now are Bob marley, sublime, dave matthews band, jimi hendrix, the doors, jack johnson, etc...

I'm only 27! What passed for 'college rock' when I was supposed to be in college (2000-4) turned me off of indie for years, actually. Precious fucking white people. I'm so happy some bands have discovered fuzz pedals again.

'College rock' as genre != what actually gets played on college radio (also, you may just have a truly godawful college station near you). Even in the '80s/'90s they were programming classic rock and metal and everything along with the indie. For the last six years I'd say it's stuff like Band of Horses, The Decemberists, the Hold Steady (actually awesome), some other bearded fey white dude shit I can't remember right now.
