With the current SL cut size up 1 or 2 from NS. I'm a comfortable 31 in NS, could not even close the SL 32s. It's a different type of cut than NS, tighter top block, looser bottom block.

Yes, the SL is closer to the NS cut. Originally, the SL was cut in the silhouette of the NS, and the ST the PS; however, the cuts have evolved over the different lots. I, for one, prefer the cut of the newer lots, or at least the measurements since I haven't tried on a pair.

I decided to order a pair of 29 indigo ST's. I have been looking for a jean to wear this summer with a 7" hem and have put in a lot of time on some deep indigo weird guys, but the top block the WG's really doesn't suit me. I blame the monster back rise.

I have a pair of indigo SL 28's and black SL 29's and both of them fit me better in the top block than anything else I have worn, so I am hoping there is some decent carry over to the ST's.

My big concern is the knee measurement. All my jeans have an 8" knee and it is 7.1" on the ST's, which I think is what gives the extremely fitted look to the Self Edge photos despite the fact the thigh measurement is not ridiculously small. I am hoping that sufficiently sagged, I can "lower the knee" an inch, gain some breathing room, and loosen the fit.

FYI I recently bought the same size in SL as I did in NS and I love the fit. Sizing up one is do-able, but I couldn't imagine sizing up 2 for SL. The cuts are pretty similar. My $.02

if someone wouldn't mind for this newb, to directly compare the fit/cut of the SL-100 vs. 501 STF... what would be expected differences in cut/fit

The cuts are very different... the SL cut is a modern slim straight leg, which means that it's not very roomy in the thigh and has a slight taper from the knee to the leg opening. The 501 will give you a much roomier thigh and calf - it's a traditional straight leg. If you're comparing to Levi's you'd probably find the SL is somewhat more like a 511 than a 501.

The waist of the 31 will stretch the inch to the waist of the 32 fairly quick.

I'd stick with the 32's. They look good, the 31's, not so good. The 31's are way too tight in the top block and that's not going to give much.

Agreed. The 32 doesn't look very tight in the top block. Once you hem, the leg will slim up a bit below the knee.

Whats the word on fading in the blacks? Anyone have pictures?

Just picked up a pair of the ST-210 at the Arlington Denim Bar, but they were only $165 instead of $195. Are these an older run or something? What's the difference? Measurements seem pretty close to the Selfedge site.

I sort of disagree as mine were really tight when I got them and started loosening all over right away. I'd say go with the smallest size you can button all the way up the first try.
