They sound more mislabeled than anything else. Or from a run which used a different measuring chart. Return them for a pair of the correct size.
Hey, thanks for bringing that up. We can and should update our sizing chart to more accurately communicate our measuring methods. You are correct that we measure them by laying them flat and measuring the back waistband and multiplying that by two - this is the preferred method of measuring jean waists and is done quite commonly.

As for your question on the button, the "3sixteen NYC" shank is from our most recent run. Let me know if we can be of any further help.

can we have the shadows hemmed and chainstitched ordering through the 3sixteen site or should I just wait for them to come up on SE?

I don't entirely understand the logic behind a non aligned waist measurement, however it is true that it is common enough. When it is non aligned, the customer cannot really predict what they are getting, as the offset cannot be guessed. However, nobody knows how the offset will fit anyway, so the numerical value of the waist isn't strictly useful.

You'd need to wait for them to post on SE to have the chainstitch hem option - sorry!

True. Brands are funny as hell with that this is how "We" measure shit.

Does anybody know the intricate differences between the 3sixteen+21BSP and the ST-100x? I opted for the 3sixteen+21BSP and while they seem like fine jeans, they are not as tapered as I'd imagined them to be. Were they built off the same silhouette as the ST? I hope they don't stretch as I get more wear on them. Other than that, the denim looks like it'll break in nicely.

I was told that these unsanforized jeans were made in the same mills as Samurais. Any other info about this collab that'd be neat to know?

They're Back! The 2nd production run of the the 3sixteen "Shadow Selvedge" is finally here! They arrived as well. Just didn't have time to get both online yet. I have full runs of ST-220x and SL-220x. If you cannot wait until they go online, give us a call and do a phone order. Cost is $230.

Was wondering if anyone has had experience with the grey sl 300? Just copped a pair for 75 bucks online and I'm wondering if they're gonna fit looser than the sl's I have. The measurements on the 3S site showed bigger all around except the thigh.

I just ordered a pair of SL-120x shadow denim.  Will post fit pics and initial impressions once they arrive.

Anybody else have a pair / have some fade pics other than what is on the 3sixteen tumbler?

I bought a pair of the ST-120x back in May, but they don't have much fading yet. In fact they're going to hit B&S soon since the fit just does not work on me, too much taper.

I also bought a pair of the SL-120x with the new shipment and noticed that the pockets are different on this run from my older SL-100x and ST-120x. They're a little higher and shaped a little differently. Will post some pics when I get around to it.
