I have a friend in HR that does this. People get and lose jobs from what they can gather about a person on facebook. Personally, I try to keep my pictures that could be used against me, off of facebook.

But once you are hired and the boss starts facebook-friending you, you probably also want to remove all traces of adolescent behaviour.

I've never really got this. I presume everyone has engaged in adolescent behaviour at some point. And most people I imagine still get sozzled.

So, I assume employers know this also. Why does them finding evidence of what is already common and therefor to be expected make people less employable? I know it does, but I don't think it should. You know there's a tree in the forest even though you haven't bothered to check, once you've seen it I don't think it makes it any more real!

Also, personally, firing someone over S and M material is immoral.

Honestly, when I see people completely stripping their profiles of say...any picture with alcohol in it...it seems pretty stupid.

I tend to clean up the ones where I look bad/look like an idiot but think about this:

would you really want to work for a company that wouldn't hire you because there is a perfectly nice photo of you where you happen to be holding a beer? alternatively, would you really want to hire someone into your team who appeared to live a completely sterile life (depending on what other photos they have tagged)?

I don't really see how going to the occasional party should mess with your chances...especially since it seems like HR people partied a lot when they were in college

I left the picture up.

As far as the employers go... make your profile only visible to 'friends' and only have friends as 'friends'. Quite simple really. I don't understand why this is an issue. I can't see how any of my potential employers would ever see my facebook profile.

Deleting photos of me holding a beer is stupid. Deleting photos of me drinking a beer out of a girls cleavage isn't. There are some things that shouldn't be on the public domain.
