So it looks like the California sun will be making a comeback this summer and I want to know a couple of brands to look out for for a pair of sunglasses. What are some brands that I should look out for in the $100-150 range for sunglasses? I guess I'm looking for polarized lens with good quality lightweight frames.

Well, I just bought some Mosley Tribes from OSA with $100 off, leaving them right at $100. So, if you could track one of those down, you'd be good. Another option would be Gilt, as they have had Oliver Peoples, Mosley Tribes, Paul Smith and Barton Perrira (sic?). Timing is everything with that.

ray bans. for some reason the tortoise shell wayfarers run at 140 whereas the black versions are 190.

Thanks. I was thinking Raybans myself but probably not the Wayfarer. I'm really interested in other brands like Persol, Dita, OP and all those SF-approved brands but I don't have enough $$.

Any specific styles I should look out for? Any I should avoid?

I bought a pair of Persol glasses off ebay for around $90 and it was a great deal. I'd find a couple of sunglass brands you like and check ebay before you buy retail, it's a toss up whether you can find the style you want and legit, but if you can, the price will probably pretty nice.

Although beware that half the look of a good pair of sunglasses is fitting your face properly. The glasses I ordered do happen to fit my face very well, but I was VERY particular in making sure the size and style were correct and I was still a little worried until I finally tried them on.

In that price range, Persol no doubt about it.

Of course they would have to fit my face. I've seen people wear Wayfarers just because and some of them look pretty stupid. I used to swear Oakleys were the bomb and I got a pair of Minutes cause my sister had a pair that looked cool on her and they look kind of weird on my face.

But thanks. I'll keep a look out for Persol as well. They seem to be at Sunglass Huts so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to find.

Muchos gracias!

I love how $100-150 sunglasses are "budget" sunglasses.

I have 2 pairs of Persols, one pair of Initiums, a pair of Ray-Bans, and a couple random other pairs, and really the best looking ones on me cost $12 at a hardware store. I've gotten more compliments on those than any other pair - some dude actually went out of his way to ask where I got them.

That said I do still wear some of the other ones, usually the Initiums or Persols. I guess my point is that it's more about what fits your face than the brand or designer.

It is worth investing money in quality sunglasses. Cheap no name models, might look cool, however you won't get proper uv protection for your eyes and the quality of the lenses and frame is not good.

Budget glasses are like $35... I bought Cheap Mondays for the price.
They are nice but I like my B&L Wayfarers way more.

If lenses aren't polarized - I want nothing to do with those sunglasses...

I have a pair of Maui Jims that I actually really like, and have lasted years without problems

I've had good luck going into your normal optical shop, and finding the rack of cheap sunglasses off in the corner. Some brands I've seen are Polaroid, Body Glove (fit amazing, but the giant logo turned me off), also some brand called "California Sun" or something like that. Plus, they're always out on the rack to try on, you don't have to ask anyone to unclock a display.

I know Target Optical gives you 30$ off if the sunglasses/glasses are bought off the rack, and this is in addition to any discounts etc. I worked it out and with various discounts available from target wayfarers can be had for around 100$ taxes included etc (I don't have health insurance, this could possibly bring the price down even more).
