I don't see the problem...he also wears Hugo Boss suits
The main objection on this forum to Hugo Boss suits and the top-end KC shoes (although only the ones with nice styling...they make some UGLY ones) is that the quality is bad for the price.
The fit is good. He looks great in the suits he wears on how I met your mother and his shoes seem to go just fine (he could be in some much uglier kicks).
The difference is that Neil Patrick Harris is a celebrity. He is not worried about how long his suits last or the quality he gets for the price. He probably follows trends enough that any suits he is wearing now will be long gone by the time they start to show wear. He also has enough money (or is paid/given clothes for free) that longevity doesn't really matter.
As long as the cut looks good and the clothes/shoes feel alright, he is set.
Those of us "real people" benefit a little more from buying clothes that are built to last and are styled in such a way that remain relevant.
