8/2, sometime in the evening, but not too late, The Brandy Library.

Will be hanging out in MePa mostly as I'm in the Gansevoort. Other time will be spent at the Met, earnest sewn, the jean shop, the High Line, restaurants as yet undecided, and other things as yet undecided.

You will be disappointed with Plunge if you havent been there before.

I haven't, but I kind of sort of fully expect to be. PDT or Pegu are my kinds of establishments in NYC. Hardcore, focused on craft, high quality. I've never been to a club or such. I'm just a country boy and I've been past the Gansevoort when the line of really douchey looking guys with very slim and attractive women dripping off of them waiting for Plunge went clean down the street, and I wondered what exactly they were waiting for. I've always maintained that the clubby, trendy, (and I expect, ultimately stupid) atmosphere was not of interest to me, but I wondered. The last time I was in the City I saw that line and wound up, as usual, at PDT (where I had an awesome time), but I still wondered about that other world, seeming (as I expect it is) so diametrically opposed to mine, was like. I expect I won't like it, but I was annoyed I didn't go last time, and if I don't, I'll still wonder. How stupid is that? ~ H

It's pretty stupid . Don't get me wrong, if you have never been to NYC it is a cool place to check out because of the view. That's about it. The bartenders are horrible, the drinks are even worse, and the clientele is the icing on the cake. Mostly older douchebags in midlife crises pretending to be rich socialites.

What is PDT? I havent heard of it. You had mentioned Pegu in another thread and Mauro and I were thinking about going by on Sunday but we weren't sure where it is.

Ok. I don't keep up with my City geography to much, but I'll find out which of my favorite places is closest and will plan to head there after getting annoyed at Plunge then. Haven't heard of PDT? It's my favorite bar in the City -- the name stands for Please Don't Tell. There is a bit of theatrics involved in getting in (going through the phone booth at a cult favorite hotdog joint in the Village), but the atmosphere is awesome and civilized, the drinks outstanding. However, if you're just getting into hardcore oldschool cocktails (anything with a fluorescent red cherry abomination, sour mix, or juices not from fresh fruit, does not qualify) I really strongly suggest going to Pegu. It's Audrey Saunders' (formerly of Bemmelman's at the Carlyle) flagship home of cocktails in the City. Good mix of oldschool and newschool mixology, but all honest and excellent. Nice atmosphere, no theatrics. Not too hard to find -- there is a engraved griffon on the door (illuminated in red at night). Pretty much any of these places are excellent -- this is (most of) the upper tier: http://www.sortuv.com/14797-Details-...w-York-NY.aspx Never been to Pravda or Milk, though. ~H

Sometimes I wonder who you really are. In other words, you're saying its guidoville. I never really saw any of those people of whom pics are so often posted here when I lived in NJ. How do they get past the bouncers? ~ H

Just an FYI, if you go late night the bouncers name is Panama, not sure that will help. Yes, there are guidos, tourists, typical NYU brats but for the most part people respect the atmosphere, even if they are saddened that such a great bar lacks Red Bull, Stoli "O" etc.
