Cool! Love it when a bag becomes a trusty companion.

Has anyone come across other options?

Thanks.

Answering my own question. Just discovered this, from South Africa: https://hellopretty.co.za/chartermade/cambridge-satchel-backpack

Similar to the Bexar option but cheaper (I don't have info on postage). I think the top backpack strap attachment is a better design and it doesn't have the big ol logo on the front flap.

It is amazing how close the design of the bags are between Chartermade and Bexar.. It is Bridle leather that Chartermade uses too?

picked up a RM Williams Monash Travel Bag on discount today for an upcoming holiday, also my Bestetti shoes came too! biggrin.gif

Shoved my work bag, and a shoe box in the travel bag to take home. Very happy with the frog mouth opening, very easy to put things in and take them out.

Just found this thread. Europe is the best place to get man bags--they all carry them. I just found this page that has the best selection I've seen on the web in a while, but its delivery only in UK. Especially the leather Arthur & Aston model...

Hello everyone. I am a college student going into finance, and will need a bag to wear with a suit and with business casual wear. I understand that a briefcase/messenger bag fits the bill, as it can also be worn to class. Can anyone recommend me a messenger bag (preferably leather) that is under $300? Of course I have looked at Bally, etc. but they are too expensive for me right now. The more I save, the better obviously - I also do not want a bag that is too "showy" and will make me seem pretentious for a college student. Thanks a lot!

You don't want to wear a bag with a shoulder strap on a suit or tailored jacket, it will damage the shoulders, and just not look good. A leather briefcase is really the way to go. Picard bags from Germany are a great value, but not available in North America. There are a few Tumi bags in your price range, or you could wait for their next sale.

La Portegna on sale from NMWA is pretty solid and close to your price limit.

Using a simple, no nonsense Costume National messenger these days. It's very dark green washed nappa, not quite black standard calf, as is CN's wont. That's what I like about the brand... they do tiny tweaks on standard, minimal classics. It's been washed to give it a soft, subtle feel. I've had this one for years... I think it was from AW2008, but CN has produced it over multiple seasons.

Pretty clearly a Ck (Calvin Klein diffusion line) logo bag. I'd advise against it. bad quality, garish logo-ing, and all around man-bag nightmare. Run. Run like the wind. One out of three Southeast Asian fashion victims visiting a duty free store will have this bag.

The only Calvin Klein worth your time or $$$ is Calvin Klein Collection by Italo Zucchelli... and even that one can sometimes be iffy.

The Keith Haring in the background, even as bad as THAT is, still is much better.

I've been trying to find a single gusset, briefcase-style bag that comes with a shoulder strap.

My ideal is that it be formal enough that I can bring to business meetings but also won't look strange when I walk around town casually.

I travel a fair amount so it would be very helpful to have 2 in 1.

Any ideas?

I use this one from Ernest Alexander and love it. I mostly use it for work, but the waxed canvas would definitely be great for casual use as well. Very nice leather and brass hardware. The shoulder strap is all leather and clips on with brass buckles.

I'm also using this Trussardi 1911 document case. Deep maroon/mahogany brown soft calf. The versatility, elegance, and value of a good document case can't be beat.

A new SF affiliate is offering some interesting, well made bags at fair prices. Definitely appears to be worth a look:

I've been enjoying the discussion on the new affiliate thread I linked above... so I want to put out there that I plan to support their launch by getting the cognac portfolio when it is launched.

Manbaggers of the world, unite! wink.gif

One can never have enough portfolios... here are a few of mine.
