Hello, please help me with choice of a shoulder bag. At the moment I am ready to pull the trigger for Henry Tomkins reporter: http://www.htleather.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/reporter-main.jpg.  Are there any better options (maybe more expensive) than this, what do you think?

Time to beat up on Bottega Venetta for what must be the most overpriced designer bags on the market.

Recently dropped in Bottega Venetta specifically to fondle all of their bags. From a distance the cross thatched leather messenger bags are seriously eye catching. I've seen these worn on the street and they always appear understated yet sophisticated & elegant. And also masculine without trying to be macho or ridiculous yet still refined-looking. As far as appearance, I'm into it. The problem is the bag feels less durable than a paper sack from Wallmart. The bag is extremely light, which is fine, actually given the description on the website I think that's the whole point; however, the leather is the absolute worst type of leather on the market.

It's the cheapest feeling leather on planet earth. If I didn't already know who BV was and couldn't readily identify the bag and you placed one in my hands; I'd actually question if the bag wasn't pleather. When brushing across its surface, the leather transmits this awful sensation to the fingers, similar to most pleathers. Also, from my experience, this type of pleather superior designer leather scratches very easily and the scratches tend to be deep and lasting gouges that look like scars leftover from a botched c-section performed in some 3rd world country.

The biggest kick in the balls here is the price. $3000USD

Fucking laughable.

Perhaps i'm just some erudite who lacks appreciation for this designer bag--but I think not.

While I'm at it...

First, a quick PSA: Gucci: These bags are garish as hell and I wouldn't be caught dead with one. Neither should you.

Prada: Feel of quality from top to bottom, inside-out, and are smartly designed as well. Styling of course is a personal thing but I love it. Very sophisticated. Understated. Above all the Prada leather is, bar none, my absolute favorite of all the designers i've experienced.

Almost walked out the door today with this, but in blue (a blue not shown on the website): The dimensions are simply perfect; not too wide nor too narrow... just right for my frame.

Very nice! I have a Prada deerskin duffle and it is absolutely amazing. The leather lining is in a league of its own.

Thank you, will give it a thought. A nice hybrid of shoulderbag and tote, heh.

Really cheaper! Thanks, but I'm not sure about that black "hole".

On the second thought Henry can change the colour of the leather, so maybe I will ask him to match the colour of my Daltons :)

Just got this one a couple of weeks ago. Amazing construction, delicious (Horween) leather.

Where to get a decent barrel-shaped weekender below $300?

I'm a little enamored of this APC (the black version) but its 250 english pounds w/o shipping. Purchase?

I've been eyeing that APC bag since last december, but ended up getting this Ernest Alexander bag after Christmas when they had a $200 off code for purchases over $400.  I'd might still grab that APC though.  You should get it before I do... biggrin.gif

need a recommendation... I need an everyday carry tote bag. Will be used to carry shoes, lunch, maybe a laptop but probably not.

Stipulations:
1. Vertical rectangle, not horizontal
2. some sort of closure like snaps, zipper, etc. I don't like people being able to see what's inside.
3. Long enough handle to put over should but not so long it drags on the ground
4. not just one large bucket, I need at least a pocket or two inside.
5. Price point around $200, maybe $300
6. Material could be cotton, waxed, pleather, etc.
7. No brand preference really
8. Colors - navy, burgundy, green, brown, black, etc. so probably darkish so doesn't look dirty.

picked this up, quite simple - the colour would be best described as a dark tan..
