I regret not buying a Ghurka briefcase back when they were still made in Connecticut, and they had a store in SF on the same block as my office. Quality has reportedly gone down since they transferred production to China. Not that the Chinese are incapable of quality, after all, Hermes has set up shop there specifically to tap into nearly gone imperial artisan skills like lacquerware, but most other Western firms transfer production there for only one reason, cost-cutting.

Hmm. I did not realize the brand was sold and the new owners are taking production back to CT. Encouraging, although it remains to be seen whether the craftsmanship of the originals will successfully be resuscitated.

If quality has gone down, that's too bad. My mom has a set that was my dads when he was a pilot and the entire set (carry on, medium duffle and a large duffle) is amazing.
