Hmmm there's a Marc by Marc Jacobs full grain duffle that will probably hit sale for <$375. No idea about the quality though, same as their women's stuff?

on what site? MMJ leather goods are terrible IMO... sloppy finishing, usually looks like shit.

What I like about my Want leather tote is I know because it has a simple clean design that it will go with everything and it will work for all ages.  Are there any great quality leather totes out there for less than 500?  I get many compliments on it.  I have the cognac and am thinking about getting the green.  Check the video on Mr.Porter about them.  They design these bags for reasons that appeal to myself and other people looking for something classic and made with good materials.

I recently got the Want Les Essentiels Trudeau and I'm very happy with it.  Classic briefcase, good leather and zippers and functional pockets.  Feels better than Ferragamo briefcases and costs less.

I can kind of understand what you're saying. All else equal, maybe a complicated design takes more to execute. But realistically, it's easy to imagine a scenario in which stopping a run of some over-done design to do a simple one might be more expensive. Also, take a look around. Finding clean shapes and lines like WANT has is just hard. There isn't much of it around and I expect there would be a premium tied to the minority aesthetic.


Yes, I agree WANT is a label. That's why I was a little confused when you said this:

I have recently started looking for a new bag and considered WANT at first, but the price tags of the more "complex" bags are unfortunately not in my range. I then remembered having read about Hong Kong label 78percent in Wallpaper a few months ago: they use Japanese waxed cotton-canvas and italian leather to make different kinds of bags and accessories, which I find are quite appealing: http://www.seventyeightpercent.com/

See their way of doing things somewhat close to a cleaner, more simple Filson style. As I'm in Europe, I will most likely order from http://www.maisondesacs.com/engine/shop/index.html.

Aiming at purchasing "Gustav", their messenger bag, soon.

Has anyone tried 78% before?

This makes no sense whatsoever. Bags that require more materials and more labor cost more, period. That is why WANT's basic O'Hare bag costs less than the Malpensa, Trudeau, etc.

That "WANT Les Essentiels De La Vie" they stamp in gold on the front of every bag is pretty overt; moreso than the average Balenciaga or Margiela bag.

No experience with this brand, but they look nice enough from the pictures. Not sure I'm a big fan of the Gustav's asymmetric flap, though.

Even MJ mainline isn't that nice most of the time, it's Mr. Porter though so can't hurt to order just to see

Anyone experiences with Eastpak X Kris van Asche? Is it the usual Eastpak quality, just with certain design attributes and probably different materials or is their any significant difference in the quality of the pieces? Thanks for any answers!
