I'm in a standstill for what bag I should order.

This nice J-Crew one from Belstaff

http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/accessories/bags/PRDOVR~23005/23005.jsp (In dark brown)

Or this heavy duty traveler briefcase from Saddleback

http://www.saddlebackleather.com/categories/79-Briefcases/products/1655-Leather-Briefcase-Chestnut

Any help in opinions between them. I'm kind of stuck on which one I like more .. almost thinking of just getting both.

Here some pictures from my ebay listing of my saddleback leather bag, i really dont want to be parting with the bag but its not practical for my needs.

apologizes for the oversized pictures but i had my brother upload them for me.
Funding will go towards a new bag. Possibly the Lotuff and Clegg english briefcase.

they sell an imitation of this bag at H&M for 30 bucks. I think this bag is voyeuristic. it defeats the purpose of a bag which is suppose to carry personal belongings. It's like an "exhibitionist " bag
post #1819 of 2773
I think the concept is alright. Bags are just for holding things that won't fit in your hands/pockets, not necessarily concealing personal objects... IMO. It is "exhibition-y" but I think that's kind of the point.

Just fill it up with condoms and lube.

It's all about juxtaposition, so I recommend condoms, lube, a copy of "Assmaster" magazine, a French baguette, two pairs of clean socks, an Amazon Kindle, and a moleskine notebook filled with drawings of pine trees.

You gotta keep people guessing.

I didn't check but wouldn't it be less expensive just to get the bag from a Belstaff retailer? J.Crew always has a markup on the stuff that they sell that's not theirs. I.E. Jack Purcells, New Balance, Aldens, etc... All this stuff is less expensive elsewhere.

I just received this Rag and Bone bag off Gilt. I really like the simple, classic design (I travel a lot for business and think it pairs pretty well when I wear a suit). I don't think it's worth the $400 retail price, but seems very well made for the $170 that I paid. The leather/denim both seem very sturdy, and the heavy hardware detailing makes the bag looks a lot nicer in person. Does anyone have any experience with Rag and Bone?

I've seen this one up close. It's really just an ordinary canvas satchel. Take the Belstaff tag off and you have a $50 bag.

Personally, I like the Saddleback much, much more. I think the Belstaff is just another one of those rugged-trendy bags (but maybe slightly higher quality?). It stands out in photographs, but will look a little ordinary/dumpy in person (as Johdus mentioned).

The Saddleback will age beautifully and stay beautiful (even when it's falling apart). It will also be more versatile for most of its life.

Both. It's a fine bag if you like something rugged and rumpled.
The Belstaff brass snaps give it some character.
But it's not worth $400.

+1

The Belstaff is pretty banal, as far as $400 bags go; you could easily get something similar for under $100. If you want a higher-quality "branded" bag, Filson messengers are half the price and, in my opinion, more attractive.
