Stipulations:
1. Vertical rectangle, not horizontal
2. some sort of closure like snaps, zipper, etc. I don't like people being able to see what's inside.
3. Long enough handle to put over should but not so long it drags on the ground
4. not just one large bucket, I need at least a pocket or two inside.
5. Price point around $200, maybe $300
6. Material could be cotton, waxed, pleather, etc.
7. No brand preference really
8. Colors - navy, burgundy, green, brown, black, etc. so probably darkish so doesn't look dirty.

That's a lot of rules for not much money. I'd try Banana Republic, Fossil, Jack Spade, Cole Haan, maybe WANT Les Essentiels or Ben Minkoff on sale. Coach sells some fabric totes for under $300.

I'd try to find the Billykirk 207 on sale/ebay. Found this one if you don't mind burgundy: http://www.revolveclothing.com/DisplayProduct.jsp?product=BLYK-UY58&c=Bags+%2526+Wallets&s=C&d=j

Jack Spade Port Case is on the small side but the price is right.

Hey fellas! You may have noticed, but I've been featuring a number of bag companies recently on the site's main page and in SW&D. Take a look! Covered MISMO this time and WANT Les Essentiels last time, which several of you have asked about before.

Will also be covering a few more premium makers (meaning $$$ but absolutely superlative) in the next few weeks, including my ultimate favorite from pitti, the Danish maker GRAAE.

Master-Classter, if you're interested at all in Cole Haan's offerings (may be in your
$200-$300 price range), they are currently having 25% off right now. I'm personally considering a leather duffel from them at the moment. Check out their website.

These Coach bags look hot if you are willing to spend up to $400

Do they ever run sales? I'd like to get that. Not sure if I should wait till it's cheaper.

my wife got my duffle for 25% off, sign up for Coach emails/mailers, we got the coupon twice before she got it for me

I recently bought a leather tote by Beams+ from Mr.Porter. It's nice, I like it.
Or this Marc Jacobs bag from the Corner

Obscure European leathergoods that cost more than a mortgage payment?

Does anyone have experience with the rebooted Ghurka? I wish I had bought one of their dispatch bags 10 years ago when they were still made in the USA and they had a shop right around my office corner in San Francisco, but it was more than I could justify to pay back then.

A stockist is offering some nice deals on Ernest Alexander bags:

I recently saw some bags from a new Denver-based (of all places) manufacturer called Borlino - they sell at Neimans. Ridiculously nice and totally unique in terms of quality of leather.

My favorite of the bags is below. More here...

^ My mother bought two big suitcases made out of buffalo leather from Spain years ago. We have been thinking about using the leather to make bags!
