The Definitive MANBAG Thread Part I: 2009-2014 - Page 148

I haven't really been following the bag scene much due to apathy, but I have an odd question. A friend's birthday is coming up and I'd like to give him a nice leather messenger. Price isn't really an issue and runway/atelier bags are fine, though I'm more interested in construction and leather quality than aesthetics. The catch is that he has a pretty severe allergy to most metals (aside from sterile stuff like titanium not commonly used) so there literally can't be any in the design. No zipper pulls, no strap latches, no reinforcement pins.

So, something flap-based with open pockets. I'd rather not take the easy way out and get a tote-based bag. Anyone know a brand offhand that does something like this?

Suggestions for a bag for around $1500?

Needs to be brown leather and with an adjustable strap and handle/handles. Pretty much a bag to carry Macbook, some random papers, phone, keys and maybe a textbook/lab goggles, etc. Sort of an every day school bag.

I guess it should be mentioned that I'll be carrying this in gym shorts and a vneck to jeans and boots to slacks and a dress shirt (never a suit though). So needs to be versatile in that sense and nothing overly casual nor overly dressy.

In the $500 range, I'd look at:

-Furla
-Jack Spade (leather)
-Marc by Marc Jacobs

Nothing comes to mind. Without knowing your budget (or what's even available in Denmark), it'd be a shot in the dark anyway.
