just a note to the forum about customs in the UK..be warned: i ordered a porter backpack from rakuten and have a note to pay 60 pounds in customs..the bag was around 200 pounds so be warned..once you pay shipping and duty costs really add up..

i had wanted to buy some post overalls clothes from Rakuten but will not be able to support the japenese now due to customs..

My Belfast messenger bag and Filson computer/messenger bag have both served me well!
I have felt no need to look around for anything else....smile.gif

In other news, found these two beautiful, simple, conservative pieces on Mr. Porter from SAB. At $1200 for the brief and $1500 for the holdall, a relative bargain for their quality. As I posted in the MC briefcase pron thread, compare that price with what Ferragamo, Zegna, or Tods charges for a very lackluster quality brief or duffle, and the SAB seems a very good price. In Japan, there are a number of brands that do this style/quality level for about half that price... like the brand SOMéS (I will try to post pics later) but they don't distribute internationally, sadly. They are my new favorite "work" brand for very conservative goods.

That's why you use a proxy like SharpService who marks the value at like $50 and as a gift when they send it to you. Results in never paying customs fees teacha.gif

Should of asked homie.

I have handled them in person and the quality is good. However, most likely due to their popularity, their prices have gone up sharply, or The Corner is charging crazy retail as usual...

From this current autumn Hermes season, their perennial classic Sac a depeches in dark brown (ebene, or maybe havana?)

The classic men's accessory, and all around from style to size to every detail, I don't know if it's ever been topped. Beautiful, timeless, though unfortunately these days so expensive almost to be untouchable. I think it's nearly $7-8k for calf and goes up from there. They are quite common in Japan, and on the aftermarket range from about $2,000-4,000 used. I saw a beautiful one in chestnut clemence (soft calf) the other day and it got me drooling.

i love the porter backpacks but the only UK source i can find seems expensive..
http://www.present-london.com/porter/porter-black-day-pack/ - trying the rakuten site, shipping adds up though!
EDIT -Just ordered a porter backpack through Rakuten - bit scared what they will charge for shipping as they add it after, but hopefully its not insane!

Im sorry Im late to the backpack game but why the heck would a nylon bag cost 4xx dollars?

I use neatsfoot oil on most of my rougher leather items such as the straps on my Belstaff or my Ghurka.

Not sure, but it looks like some of the Prada men's line canvas backpacks they put out a while ago... not in the cheaper nylon/sport line but in their mainline luggage collections (with the dark blue dustbags.) Because Prada has made similar ones since the mid 1990's, MANY other brands have followed suit, so I'm not positive it's Prada. Stylistically, it also has a bit of Lanvin-esque flare, but again that's just a stylistic guess.

In any case, it's a nice looking backpack and I hope you can find it (and that it's not priced so absurdly as to give you a heart attack.)

Unrelated, but speaking of backpacks, I quite like the design, size, etc. of this Marc Jacobs backpack.
Not crazy about the price, obviously, but like the style. Also like that's it is very dark blue instead of black (which over time will patina nicely, but still be wearable with black or brown tones.

Got it from Ssense, actually arrived today. Free shipping and no tax. The Corner is charging over $200 more than Ssense!!!!

Great looking bag, well constricted, nice details. Not cheap, but all in all seems like a good buy.

Looks like a backpack version of MJ's Venetia handbag (which also begat LV's identical Manhattan bag). I like the styling, but (at least from the picture) the leather looks like absolute junk.

This is my latest favorite: an ugly nylon Bottega Veneta briefcase for $1,550.
