How many watches do you own? - Page 2

2.... A skagen and a breitling likely to pick up a (dirt cheap, restored with Japanese components) vintage Patek any day now...theyre everywhere in Vietnam, and the manual winding ones can be as cheap as $20-$30 leftovers from the French colonial era i am told

I own a bunch (15?), but most are Swatch Watches. I kind of have a thing for them and still receive them as gifts from my parents. But I also own two Ken Cole watches which are relatively cheap and look nice and sleek. I have a newer Bulova Marine Star that I got on EBay for about 50. There are two newer pocket watches sitting around neither of which works. One has a broken stem, the other a dead battery that I haven't shipped off to be replaced (Fossil and probably not worth it). And I have a vintage 30s Bulova that I adore. So you see, much quantity, not much in price. b

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I figured this would be a good place to ask thouse in the know about a new watch purchase. My parents want to buy me a new watch in the $1000 range as a gift for college graduation. I'd like to get a nice dress watch with a leather band. Any suggestions?

Wow -- a lot more folks with 4+ watches than I would have predicted.  I forgot my Polar heart-rate monitor when answering the poll.  Clearly I need to start going to the gym.  The others I own: Blancpain Aqua Lung Glashutte Original Panomatic Date Heuer Camaro (Vintage) Seiko Orange Monster Raymond Weil Parsifal Movado Museum The first three get about 95% of my wrist time.

[quote] hmm... omega speedmaster (might be able to get from a jeweler for 1100-1200, for 1000 even you might have to go gray-market) oris watches are also quite nice, and they have many models in that price range.

Raymond Weil watch I'm not super knowledgeable about watches, and I don't recommend going on Ebay for watches as a general matter, but I think this watch is beautiful. I did a quick search for Raymond Weil because, in terms of non-vintage watches, they seem to have one of the more affordable mechanical movements. I think if you are going to pay $1000 for a watch, trying to get a mechanical (nonquartz) movement is a good idea. I say this because quartz is quartz is quartz. I wouldn't spend $3000 on a Cartier quartz movement when I could get a similar looking Coach watch (made by Movado) for about 1/6 of the price.
