Similar experience here. My father's father was a farmer in Tennessee and had (in addition to pigs, horses, beef cattle, chickens, and crops) milk cows. I was a small boy the last time I was there, but in addition to the freshly churned butter on made-from-scratch-biscuits I do remember the taste of the milk. Amost overwhelming, especially to a kid raised on skim, like I was.

Years ago I lived with a woman who was an amateur chef (she read cookbooks like they were novels). She made a me heart-shaped tartar one Valentine's. Still makes my mouth water to remember it. Other raw food, I likes teh shrimp.

+1 That type of raw food is really quite good in moderation. I've not been to that restaurant but a similar one in Chicago. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Said my friend, "Everything was good but would have been better cooked." Raw green beans marinated with some fresh squeezed lemon juice and salt, for example, is really a refreshing side for a meal. Also, raw food desserts made from pureed nuts, fruits, and the like are seriously tasty.

What was the place in Chicago?

I could think Green Zebra would count. It's not all raw, but it's in a similar vein. Maybe Charlie Trotter's back in the day. Then there's Cousins and Karyns, but I've never heard much of either of those.

Karyn's Raw (there's also a Karyn's Cooked). Green Zebra is excellent for vegetarian but most of their stuff is cooked (if memory serves); same goes for Trotter's. I've not been to nor heard of Cousins.
