Drinking From Another Person's Glass

What is your stance on this? I usually refrain from drinking from another person's glass, mug, bottle, etc. without a straw. Said straw must also be unused. Am I being excessively anal about this?

Yes, you are.

yeah, don't share your glass with a leper, or someone obviously ill, but if it is a friend, not suffering from an illness then who cares.

I would refrain if I or the other person were sick. Otherwise, you are just buying into the illusion of cleanliness.
I don't do it.
I do it if a non-sick friend offers me a taste of something I haven't had before.

I might, rarely. Or allow someone to taste my cocktail. Usually I have a sense of the person though, I don't do it randomly. If they ask, "don't you mind?" I jokingly ask, "well, only if you're carrying any blood-borne diseases, are you?" And of course they answer seriously. If I picked up a cold, yeah, well whatever. But Hep B, menningitis, and some others, I'm reasonably sure, can be passed that way. Hopkins? Paging Dr. Hopkins? We need some medicals to weigh in, to whom I defer.... ~ H

For those of us old enough to remember pop in bottles, did you never share a bottle of pop with a friend? Or pass around a mickey of whisky?

I would not randomly pass my glass around, and I have a full set of shots for things like Hep B, but yes, I will, on occasion, let someone sip from my glass or sip from theirs.

Mono is a hell of a sickness... never know which of your friends may have had it years prior.

I can't remember the last time I did this; I think I was a kid. I can't see myself doing it now.

i don;t do it with anyone but my wife/kids.

Of course not. If you shared a glass with someone, within 3 days you will get a fever. Then shortly afterwards, you will probably die.

Now there's something I'd never do. Kids = germ factories. And they're passing all kinds of stuff back and forth at school/day care.

I'll do it rarely. It depends on the person.
