Sure. The thread was off topic far enough I didn't think it would matter. My bad.

To the OP: 5 months ago I was 230 (I had gotten up to 235) wearing 38 jeans (snug) and xl shirts. Now I'm 195 wearing 34 jeans (loose) and large or medium shirts and I can see my abs coming in. I'm 6'1" and wear a 43 jacket by the way. My big turnaround was after my daughter was born and my wife wanted to lose the baby weight so she wanted me to do weight watchers with her. I was very skeptical, but for her I figured I'd give it a try. For me it's working. It's all about being more conscious of what I eat and portion control. I'm still losing about a pound a week. I do eat relatively low carb too. No sugar or bread, plenty of veggies and very little red meat. Lots of turkey and chicken (if you like fish and pork that's a bonus, I personally can't stand the stuff). I also take a thermogenic, like hydroxycut. I don't know if it does anything, but I figure it doesn't hurt As far as carb cravings go it hasn't been too bad, but I do eat a lot of shirataki noodles. If you don't know what they are, they're noodles made of yam flour, with almost no carbs, calories and flavor, but lots of fiber, and with a little spaghetti sauce they are just fine. Occasionally I do cheat, because who wants to go to a nice steak house and order a salad? But I always get back on it the next day. My workouts have been about an hour walk 4 days a week, biking to and from work 5 days a week (8 mi round trip) and I do sets of pushups and crunches whenever I have a couple free minutes. I hope this can help anybody trying to lose some poundage because I do know it sucks! Good Luck!

I think I need to get the motivation to get ****** on my bike every day. I'm only doing 1-2 miles a day.

That, and I have to stop snacking on nachos once a week.

But a 43 jacket? I'm a 60e - that's incredible. What were you at 230?

Thanks for telling me your results; people always tell me "it depends" when in reality, I want to hear weight loss success stories - I really just want to see some weight coming off. Hopefully soon. I'm going to work on biking more.

Does anybody use their iPod during cardio?

I use my ipod religiously. I"m not really that into working out (I do want to be in better shape though) and without my ipod for distraction the "this sucks" thought pops up into my head way too often. My recommendation is to make changing your diet your first priority. I didn't work out much until 3 months ago, because it was winter and I don't have the time to go to a gym. On a diet alone I dropped the first 20 pounds and that actually helped motivate me to workout when the weather turned nice because I wanted to see more results.

Also, get rid of all the junk food in the house. I mean all of it. I've come home after work with serious cravings, and not caring about the diet, but the closest thing we had to junk food was no sugar added fudgesicles and sugar free fat free pudding. When you don't have access to the stuff it's a lot easier.

Fastest way to lose weight is to do the obvious. Hit the gym for atleast 30 min for 5 days a week. The best thing to do is interval training IMO.

Start off by running at a warmup pace for about 5 min. Then run at around 95% speed for about 30 seconds, slow back down to 60% for 2 min then go back up to 95% for another 30 seconds. Rinse wash repeat for about 30 min.

you can also change this up if you are just starting and just run at 95% for a shorter period of time until your body gets use to it. As long as your trying thats a good thing to.

Look into circuit exercises using resistance bands/light dumbells and even using those big rubber balls. I know it looks lame if your a guy and not hitting the huge weights but some of the best results i've ever had were doing resistance training.

Cut out all sodas and sweets. Drink just water.

And if you want to go real hardcore :p cut out meat... go on a raw food type diet. I ended up dropping around 40lbs in 3-4 months from 256 to 215.

Great thread, wish more people realized its all about the diet instead of falling for gimmicks. Less or no dressing on your salads, water over sugary stuff, etc. Any work out routine will pretty much work you just have to actually DO it. Bring a notebook if you have to to keep track.

And @Justinpba wow biking to work 4 miles everyday would leave me with serious swamp ass at my cubicle in the morning, respect.

I LOATHE lifting weights but love plyometrics and I do these 3-4 times a week. I won't go swimming because of my weight.

****, I'll never understand how someone can cycle for 4 miles but not have the patience to lift weights.

Read the "4 hour body" by Tim Ferriss and check out www.leangains.com

That should help a lot. The way you look is 60-70% diet

Cycling 4 miles doesn't really take that long...

I was actually in the same boat as you roughly 5 months ago and now I'm on my way to success. I have been overweight for most of my life and its not up until early last year that I had decided to start losing weight and just having an overall healthy lifestyle. I obviously had my exercises that I would do every day and of course I was keeping myself on a strict diet and keeping track of my calories. 5 months ago, I hadn't lost any significant amount of weight for roughly 6 months. Then about 4 or 5 of my friends suggested for me to use diet pills. I told them all in a very nice way that I didn't need them. My reasoning behind that was I only knew about prescription diet pills and I know for a fact I don't need these so called diet supplements which are really just drugs that pharmaceutical companies want you to use. Once I realized I still wasn't losing any weight, I was extremely down on myself and decided to cave and do some research. I then found out that there were such things as diet pills with all natural ingredients. Long story short, I decided to give this slim 9 pill a try. At first I was a little bit skeptical when reading the slim 9 review but then I asked my doctor and he said I was good to use them so I did. Now here I am 43 lbs light and I couldn't feel better about myself. Whether the pills worked or just acted as a placebo, doesn't matter because like I said here I am 43lbs lighter. At the end of the day though, it really comes down to how determined you are to lose weight. If your just kinda wanting to lose weight, you won't. You have to commit yourself to this as it is a long road to walk.

I was trying on some new shirts last night after a lot of inspiration from SF and discovered the start of some "man boobs" and I was quite disgusted. I think I hide the 10lbs I want to lose pretty well as I am somewhat of a slender build. However, we all want to get to some ideal weight/look/feel so i need to do something. I am realizing that my metabolism has slowed as I am approaching 50 fast. So, I am getting off ****** starting last night, and doing every little bit. Just walked 0.5 miles and did 10 push ups. Big deal, yeah I know, but... if I do that multiple times a day it will help and hopefully kick start something. I will also reduce carbs and sugar and see where I go/end up. Best of luck to all and I'll report back on progress.
