McDonalds "sweet tea"...

So miraculously, i believe McDonalds has found a way to brew iced tea in 100 percent corn syrup, bypassing the "add water" stage altogether. Just a heads up.

lol, it's that sweet?

That's pretty much how sweet tea is supposed to taste. In fact, McDonald's has some of the better sweet tea among fast food restaurants.

Is it actually made with corn syrup, or are you just not a fan of the super sugared flavor? I would think if anything had real sugar the tea would.

Yeah, sorry TS but this is how my ancestors in North Carolina like it. I do agree with you though, it's kind of unpleasant.

My mother always complains about the same thing. She says if you tell them to mix half of their sweet tea with half of their regular iced tea, it's palatable. I've never had it.

You mean, like Canadian Iced Tea? All "iced tea" in Canada is sweetened, like Lipton Brisk Ice Tea and Nestea. How surprised was I when I ordered "iced tea" in Vegas only to get actual tea in ice.

I have had all of the above, plus Arizona, and etc. This was more like tea flavored sucrose than any of the other "tea" I've ever had.

And yes, I am aware that people in the south butcher tea, just like people in New England butcher coffee. It might have been actual sugar. But literally, i think my tongue went into diabetic shock, so it was hard to tell.

Haha. I can see where it would have been a shock for the unprepared/uninitiated. It's pretty much brown sugar water - you'd probably be appalled at how much sugar I add during brewing. I've been drinking sweet tea all my life, so sometimes I forget that it isn't the norm for people outside of the American South. To me, any tea without sugar added during brewing is brown, flavorless water.

Evidently, per McDonalds, there are 59g or 14.75 teaspoons of sugar in a "large" 32oz sweet tea for 230 calories.

still that is less than a 20oz bottle of soda let say the Strawberry Crush i was drinking has 34 grams of sugar per serving for total of 2.5 servings which amounts to 85 grams of sugar!!!

It's surprisingly good. And only 230 calories for a 32oz? Damn, I'm gonna be back for more next time I need a sugar fix.

I enjoy McD's sweet tea, but I usually mix in a little unsweetened tea from the neighboring dispenser.

Bojangles sweet tea is better.

it's a southern thing so you wouldn't get it. it's meant to be enjoyed with an extra large helping of bacon-fried butter and a side of lard gravy

Red Diamond > all others (except for home-made sweet sun-tea)

Mcdonalds sweet tea is good.

Most places north of the mason-dixon IME don't do sweet tea, and if they offer sweet tea its lemon sweetened tea. They give you black pekoe tea with a wedge of lemon... ewww.
