What to wear in NYC this weekend: Advice needed

Gents:

I am visiting a friend in New York this weekend, and he has a rough outline of where we are going. I would prefer not to look like I fell off the passing turnip truck. Friday we are going to Spark's for dinner, a CD release party for a friend at some bar in Brooklyn, and then back to the UES "fratty" bars on the way home. No time to change between these three different destinations. Saturday night we are going to the West Village and Meatpacking District.

Advice appreciated.

I second that. He might also find it useful to wear some shoes as well.

It'll be warm, keep the clothing light and the shoes casual.

Typical UES frat attire is jeans and a collared, striped, douchebag shirt. And some Kenneth Cole shoes.

Typical Brooklyn attire is a vintage blazer/hoodie, ironic facial hair, emo glasses, and some Chuck Taylors or interesting leather shoes.

Typical Sparks attire is a shirt and slacks.

Typical West Village attire is anything.

Typical Meatpacking attire is leather shoes, and any kind of douchey outfit you can manage to put together. Wear leather shoes.

Most bipolar itinerary ever.

But since it will be warm, get the one in linen.

Or Cotton/Linen blend. It'll be nighttime so we can't be too slubby with a pure linen snuggie.

Thanks guys. I realize the question called for abusive answers. I also realize the weird bipolar (tripolar?) nature of the itenerary, which is why I asked anyway. I don't know anything about these places/areas other than the UES, and I want to be sure my words and body language, rather than my attire, convey what a douchebag I am. I appreciate the help MetroStyles.

No problem. This was a good question, as just moving a few neighborhoods over in NY can make you look completely out of place in certain outfits. I deal with this conundrum all the time on weekends.

I live in NYC and often find myself in various locations throughout the course of a day/night. The beauty of NYC is that you can wear whatever you want, wherever you want, just wear it with confidence. Just rembember that there are 8 million people here and none of them care what you are wearing. So my advise is to go with your gut and wear what makes you comfortable.

So true.

Metrostyle's assessment is actually quite accurate. I'd suggesting going with the one of the 3 that you fit most into naturally. The thing that is great about NYC is that you can get away with whatever you damn well please, anywhere - except maybe the Russian Tea Room. If you don't "fit in" looks-wise, you might be seen as interesting - unless you clearly aren't comfortable because you don't "fit in".

I deal with this dilemma all the time when I'm bouncing around between different areas of the city on the weekends. If it were me personally, I'd wear something like the following if I were going to all of the events/locations you mentioned in the same clothes:

Jacket: Casual blazer in something like linen, linen/cotton, tweed, corduroy, etc.

Shirt: Casual button-front dress shirt or a solid-color t-shirt

Pants: Slim raw denim in indigo or gray, or a casual pair of slacks in cotton or linen.

Shoes: Brown leather loafer, suede venetian loafer, brown chelsea boot, or clarks desert boot

Since it is supposed to be pretty warm this weekend I would err on the lighter side of the above, fabric-wise (ie cotton, linen, etc.) This would be more than adequate for any of the locations you mentioned, but maybe take of the jacket for Brooklyn. If you post in SW+D you might get some good suggestions there as well.

I like maomao's look from WAYWT a few days back, if you can pull it off: http://www.styleforum.net/showpost.p...ostcount=40724
