Inexpensive Cigars

So after coming back from Cuba, I started smoking cigars. I have smoked them in the past but I never really stocked any or kept more than 1 at a time. But coming back from Cuba I bought a box of Cohibas and a bunch of others. I really enjoy smoking them but I don't want to smoke them all in a short period of time. I also enjoy smoking with my friends, but my stock is dwindling quite quick. I want to buy some more to stock but inexpensive. Maybe in the $5-10 range. Does anyone have any suggestions. So far I only know of a few. And please don't post things like "if it's not expensive it's not good" because I'm not looking for the best cigar for under $10, just something decent that won't kill my friends and I. Updated list for everyone looking for a cheap smoke... 1. Arturo Fuente Don Carlos (8-9-8 or Short Story) 2. Guantanamera (given away like candy in Cuba) 3. Padron 3000 4. Tatuaje Brown Label, especially the torpedo 5. Tatuaje Red Label, < $ than brown label, but still a good cigar 6. Illusione No. 2 7. Cubao 8. Don Pepin Garcia Blue Label 9. Oliva Serie V, torpedo or lancero 10. Joya De Nicaragua 11. Casa Magna 12. La Flor Dominicana 13. Pete Johnson's (Tatuaje) new lower level line Ambos Mundos 14. Punch Rare Corojos 15. partagas shorts 16. bolivar petit corona 17. Montecristo#4 or #2 (maybe 10-13$ for these) 18. Por laranaga pc 19. CAO brazillias 20. Ashton Cabinets 21. Rocky Patel (don't know which line) 22. Nubs 23. Illusione cg:4 ($6 range) 24. Cusano (under $5) 25. Fuente Royal Salute 26. Cuban Crafter's in house brand the Don Kiki brown labels (under $2/stick)

For a 5-10 NC stick, you can't beat Padron 3000.

Try CAO smokes, too. Also, just be on the lookout for deals. If you're on the email list of a couple different cigar retailers, you'll be able to sometimes find $12-14 smokes for 8-9 if they need to move the inventory.

If you're looking for only cuban cigars, I can take that up via pm.

One of the best cigars under $10 is the Padron 3000 (I prefer the natural, but the maduro is also very good); it is difficult to beat. I believe you can find it in the $6 to $7 area, and probably less if you buy by the box on CI. I have not had much luck with a decent cigar under $5, but between $5 and $10, some of my favorites are:

- Tatuaje Brown Label, especially the torpedo
- Tatuaje Red Label, < $ than brown label, but still a good cigar
- Illusione No. 2
- Cubao
- Don Pepin Garcia Blue Label
- Oliva Serie V, torpedo or lancero

Give those a try,

I bought some "Joya De Nicaragua" when I was there a couple of years back and although they were not cubans they were pretty nice, it was ten dollars for a box there, I have no idea what they would cost elsewhere, but they were not bad.

Thats a good idea, never thought of buying them on sale. hahaha. I should sign up for the ones in my area. I actually just got a humidor that was on sale. It was originally $250 or so but I got it for $159. It fits 100 cigars, and I received a cutter (that sucks), a lighter (that does the job) and a carrying case. Thanks for the idea.

As everyone already mentioned the Padron 3000 is probably the best option, especially b/c they are about a $100 box.

I'll offer a few more ~$5 per stick recs:

Arturo Fuente 8-9-8 or Short Story
Casa Magna
La Flor Dominicana
Pete Johnson's (Tatuaje) new lower level line Ambos Mundos

I am not sure where you live, so taxes might change the price some.

Hope these help.

I'm not that particular about if it is from Cuba or not. I just want something that I like. And something that won't disgust my guests. When I have guests over I offer them to everyone because people don't generally bring their own. So I need quantity and just enough quality that people won't be deterred from smoking.

I am in Ontario, Canada, we are heavily taxed on everything! But as long as I can get them in a $10 price range, I'm happy.

I like Punch Rare Corojos a lot for the price.

Well check them out then, I seem to remember they were slightly harsh but pleasant, a box of 10 was $ 10 in Nicaragua, I am sure they would cost more anywhere else, but I can't imagine them costing a ton.

cubans in 5-10$ range that can be purchased from some of the reliable swiss sources that ship to the us out there are:

You can get CAO brazillias (GOl! size, basically a fat robusto 5x56) for like $76 for a box of 20 on CI. Oddly enough though, if you go to their "5 pack madness" specials page you gan get 5 for $17, which turns out to be a little bit cheaper than by the box, though I'm not sure how the shipping rates would differ.

I was reading Cigar Aficionado last night and realized that not all cigars are in the $30+ range. I usually bought Cohibas, thinking that they were the "best" and anything less would be inferior.

Seems like I have a lot of homework ahead of me and a lot more to smoke (try).

Indeed, you do. Most of my favorite cigars are less than $10 per. The CI "5 pack madness" or sampler deals are the best way to go if you are new to the sport, and trying to get a feel for what you like. Most B&Ms are also very good in terms of making recommendations given your preferences (in terms of ring size, flavor profile, strength) so don't count them out..

+1. My favorite bang for your buck cigar and CI has great deals on them.
