PSA: Thin-Red Line backorder pre-order... We're idiots - Page 11

I cancelled my orders. For 20-30 more dollars a pair I can get two pairs of C&J's from the upcoming BB sale...

I'm pretty excited for my additional orders as both the Half Brogue Willow Calf and Black Suede Loafers are very nice. In addition to the Chukkas I made a custom order for a traditional captoe similar to the EG RLPL Stern in Burnished Grain Calf. The price is a bit higher than the sale shoes, but only by about 15 pounds.

I must say that I'm a big fan of the last and color on the Half Brogue Willow Calf in particular. The last has a great shape, kind of like a fuller and softer 888 and the color is akin to a darker version of EG Burnt Pine which is the exact shade I've been looking for for quite some time now. The photos make the Willow Calf seem to have a touch of Chestnut in them, but mine are a true brown.

Before too many people go ahead and cancel orders, these are very nice shoes and they are still great buys. I've always had an affinity for AS as their dark brown suede Gatcombes have always been one of my favorite pairs of shoes.

Can you explain? Even with 30% off BB shoes I don't see how they will be "$20-$30" more than the TRL price, especially including tax on a BB purchase.

C+J do that.

I'm sure other makers do too.

Alden does.

Jeez,

this whole thread is a good example of the mass hysteria often seen on Styleforum.

I opted out as well.

Well, I'm not hysterical about it, but I am opting out also.

At ~$160 shipped, this was a great deal on AS shoes. At ~$230, it wasn't.

I appreciate TRL's attempts to secure us the best deal possible, but $50 in shipping is pretty steep. I was assuming, based on the previous transaction, that the VAT would more or less cancel out the shipping costs. As it turns out, that is far from the case.

No big deal. I probably didn't need another pair of shoes anyway.

I think the "mass hysteria" was justified at ~$160 shipped. Increasing the price by $70 also justifies people pulling out. Both reactions seem very reasonable to me. I will probably still order the Monks though, as I can't find them for a similar price anywhere else (suggestions?).

I'm also about to cancel my order ... more than GBP 27 for UK delivery of 2 pairs is way too much.

I cancelled my pre-order as well. The price was reasonable although the shipping rate was not as expected for me.

+1. I don't get it. I still think ~GBP100 off the regular price is pretty solid, and pretty near the estimates they gave.

488 a pair times two, times .75, times .7 divided by 2 equals 256 dollars a pair.

Ah. I thought there was some uncertainty as to whether the bo/go-50% would still be applicable.

Based on my experience w/ shipping from the UK, I imagine they were losing at least 10 pounds per box they shipped to the US, possibly more.
