I heard some guy died that way. Last few seconds of his life must have been "nuts".

Yeah - it was that video that was going around several years ago. You know, that guy that was getting fucked by a horse. And it was "nuts" because the horse went balls-deep on the guy.

Recently a guy I know peripherally died a shameful death and everyone that talked about his death did so just as a remembrance of a good friend and never revealed how he died. It was basically the elephant in the room no one acknowledged. In his case, leaving behind a wife and baby, his death was really unexpected, shocking, a bit horrifying in the details, and ultimately very shameful when you get down to it

I had a good friend who died of a mixture of poor choices, depression and self infliction. When the old group gets togther no one ever says that it was wrong or shameful but simply a bummer as we all do wish he was still around.

That said I'm not a judge nor a jury so who am I to preach. He was and still is a good friend and shall be so.

Those that are on a need to know will have the information, others are not.

"Oh, he was giving himself a stranger while huffing hair spray and asphyxiating himself."

Car accident sounds better. How tragic.

I had an uncle who committed suicide when I was a young age leaving his wife and young son behind. Noone in my family ever speaks of how he died and I've never actually heard it brought up as I don't feel it's how they want him remembered. I've actually never heard anyone ask either so I'm not sure what the reponse would be. Not sure how this helps the OP though.

So if a person dies of autoerotic asphyxiation, do they generally refer to it as an accident or a suicide?

A guy I went to high school with, absolutely brilliant, pretty meek nerdy type, went to MIT or Harvard, I believe, ended up dead in a latex suit of a drug overdose in the middle of his meth lab in Boston. It was a shocker. Made all the local papers down here. His poor parents must be irreversibly traumatized.

I've always been honest about it. I grew up with a rough crowd and knew quite a few who have died from OD, stupid accidents, suicide or were murdered because they were doing things they shouldn't have. I hope their poor examples serve as warnings to others.

my father's brother hung himself a few years back after a series of problems he feels he is facing- parkinson's, fights with his kids, money... when he passed away we didn't really delved into the suicide part, although there was a time some family members were blaming otherswhy this had to happen. its really a shitty situation, but people in general know how to respect the deceased even without having to be told.

There was a kid in undergrad who was brilliant, but equally messed up because his identical twin brother committed suicide their freshman year in college. He was a couple of years in front of me, so I was not that familiar with the situation.
