Taking a food/wine/beer vacation

My sister first suggested this, and now I'm excited about the idea. We're thinking about taking a vacation focused solely on food and drink. Time frame for my vacation is October. I'm hoping for 3 weeks, but likely only 2.

Where she's considering:

Napa Valley for wine.

Where I'm considering:

Belgium & Germany for beer and depending on where I can redeem a free flight on Delta, maybe a dip into Northern Italy or France.

Does this sound like a bad idea? I really have never looked at a vacation like this before.

Caveat: Although I have never been to Europe, I'm looking at any historical / architectural sites we see as a bonus as I'm there to be a glutton. So, if you think it's too much to see all of France, Germany and Belgium in two weeks, I'm not interested in seeing the country. I'm there to eat and drink it (and maybe screw one of the beer girls in JetBlast's avatar). At 6'4" and 175 lbs, I have plenty of room to put on weight.

If she's into wine and you're into beer, I'd say go to Belgium. And then spend some of the time in European vineyards.
I hear Europe makes a decent wine, but that could just be a myth.

I've often thought of taking a vacation in the US, doing some sort of BBQ tour. Hit all the big BBQ cities and gorge on deliciously barbecued pieces of tasty animals.

Anyway, I've lived in a few countries, and honestly, with a limited time frame, you are likely to end up hitting the touristy restaurants, especially if you don't have friends/family/locals of some sort to help you out. I often find that the best food comes from familiarity with an area, and exploring and experimenting. I still remember the cafes that became my go-to spots in various places.

So, I'm not sure. It is a great idea, but to do it right is going to require a lot of research, IMO. At the very least, maybe members on here can point you in the right direction in various places you want to visit.
