I think the basic answer is yes... but...
so yes, most advertisements incorporate some sort of suggestion about what that product/service can do for you or what it will make you feel like, etc that's really a stretch of reality.
Me being in marketing/branding...On the other hand, advertising is partly about showcasing the best points of a product/service as compared to competitors. The intention is not only to provide information, but to suggest taht you would be better off having that thing. Many people nowadays simply aren't happy.
Consumerism attempts to fill that void. I'm not entirely sure that it doesn't work! Some people are really quite happy with their 7FAM jeans drinking Starbucks Latte's and don't think twice about it.
Myself, having started to investigate religion have found almost the same situation. A bunch of promises that are supposed to make one happy. Most people sort of pick one brand, usually the first one they encounter and keep buying a bit here and there, occasionally adding something from another one. It fills the hole of "what's the point of life, who am I, etc" enough in most cases...
