This is kind of a rhetorical question (since I already have my own opinion) but what do you think: Is the lifestyle guaranteed in all the print and media ads you see a lie? Does having the product being sold EVER actually improve your lifestyle or cause other people to behave differently around you as suggested in the ad? If not, WHY do people believe it? If we KNOW it to be false, why do people buy so much of the stuff that gets advertised? (clothing, accessories, cars, alcohol, cologne, etc). I've been moving away from materialism in my life, and I'm generally happier and more interested in other people than I used to be. Of course, the vast majority of people I see are still viciously materialistic, where owning the latest and greatest handbag or car is the most important part of their day. So, has owning a certain item ever benefited your lifestyle? I don't mean the basic necessities that one needs to be passable in public, but more the logo'd, designer, or fashionable items you often see advertised. Has wearing the hot new cologne had attractive women throwing themselves in front of your car in an attempt to mate with you?
If not, why do people buy the things that are advertised to that effect?
