Source for C&Js

Thread Starter
The last 2 times I have ordered C&Js from Pediware they have quoted a 4 and 10 week, respectively, delay in availability. I find this unacceptable. Can anyone suggest a source for C&Js that does not have such delays or an equivalent shoe I can buy from a more responsive source?

www.plal.com.  Although, I will warn you that if they don't have it in stock they must order the shoes as well.  They order at month end, so it could take so time with plal also.

Barneys NY and Turnbull & Asser NY both carry C&J.  Ben Silver carries C&J online at probably better prices.  Still, it's a lot more than Plal.  The larger Polo RL stores also carry C&J as their benchmade in England line, although it's not the handgrade as far as I can tell.  Nor are the two or three Peal models -- like the monkstrap -- C&J still make for Brooks Bros although they're a damn sight cheaper (look for Peal to be blind embossed on the sole and for two - I think - rows of nails on the heel).  You can also try ordering from La Botte Chantilly in France, or you can contact C&J in London or Paris and order directly through them.  I don't think they'll be any more expensive than Pediwear.

I tried ordering directly from C&J in London and they are more expensive than Pediwear.

On a slightly off angle, I find some of the models on the French site to be very different but in a very good way. Very nicely styled. How come they don't have those models on the UK site?

I think the BB shoes made in England with two rows of nails are Alfred Sargents. One row of nails is C&J.

The C&J Paris establishment is more fashion forward. They even have a crackerjack bespoke maker named Dmitri Gomez (the London shops don't do bespoke). AFAIK Gomez has been responsible for designing the more chiselled lasts on the newer Handgrades and for some of the more intricate models. The Paris market also seems more disposed to these creative shoe designs. It appears that creative designs like the Wimpole or the Kempton get field tested in Paris for several years before becoming more generally available in the UK shops.
