Radiohead vs Miley Cyrus - Page 5

Taking the Radiohead = good or bad debate out of the equation for a second, I can see that the Bends influenced a lot of current rock bands, but did a lot of people really ape the sound of Paranoid Android et al? Somebody fill me in.

And while I understand that popular =/= good, if you can find 1 out of 20 people on the street who can name a track from any radiohead album since ok computer, I'd be amazed. Great bands are able to be both popular and good, and radiohead was once both, but is now neither.

Hail to the Thief/Amnesiac/In Rainbows (maybe) is fair enough, but to call Kid A "shite" is laughable.

Waht's laughable are fanboys of any kind; except Miley fanboys, of course.

"The Bends" and "OK Computer" were very good albums, but yes, Thom Yorke is a complete DB, and no, none of Radiohead's recent stuff is listenable even less good. Radiohead in 1997 was an interesting (I'd even say great) band; by 2007 they had long been an intolerable whine whose irrelevance was accompanied by Yorke's bizarre, messiah-like self-importance. But Paranoid Android will always be somewhere on my playlist. . .

There are, it seems even on this thread, some Die-hard Radiohead disciples who think the band is still making great music (many of the same types also think "Coldplay" are geniuses, which is a signature of a true DB). These folks confuse me because there's so much better stuff out there, but just as some annoying nitwits were parsing Bob Dylan's late 80/early 90s stuff (think Down in the Groove, or Under a Red Sky) pathetically claiming to be secret savants of the "brilliance" locked away in Dylan's drugged-out mutterings. The difference is Bob got better (at least a little), and used to be the best in the business, whereas Radiohead is convinced its crap still is brilliant, and never was the best, but there is no shortage of sops who latch on to an artist whose every flatulation, they believe, channels brilliance, God, whatever.

Miley sucks but you can make her your girlfriend; Thom Yorke is his own girlfriend and his bitching and whining are worse than any high-maintenance jet trash bimbo could deal out.

Radiohead might not be making albums like Ok Computer now, but I think they are still making good music: Kid A is a very good in its entirety. I actually like HTTT a lot, with songs like The Gloaming, A Punchup at a Wedding, Wolf at the Door, WIEAYB, etc. Although it took me awhile to appreciate In Rainbows, after hearing the songs live, I can say Radiohead still makes great music. The Reckoner, I would argue, is one of their best songs. Down in the New Up on their second CD is an excellent song, and so I 15 step and All I need. For those that think Radiohead has been shit after OK Computer, you should go see them live. They still put on some of the best shows out there. I have listened to many many alternative rock bands out there, and there are very few bands that I come back to: Coldplay is terrible now. Bands like Elbow, Wilco, Interpol, The Decemberists, Band of horses, etc are decent, but nothing spectacular. At the end of the day, its an opinion. I have met many people that think Radiohead isn't as good as it used to be, but thats because they have changed after their Amnesiac album. Its unfortunate because on this board, anything that get even remotely close to mainstream is looked down upon. Radiohead, IMO, isn't part of this club, yet.

I have to admit that I've never listened to Radiohead OR Miley Cyrus. I just don't keep up with new music, no matter what.

So my answer would be "Radiohead who? and Miley Cyrus who?"
